Cambelt problem audi a3

Hi all posted this on a couple of forums trying to get some info.
Friend of mine has a 07 audi a3 2.0tdi, he was driving uphill at 20mph when the idler pulley bolt snapped in the block chucking out smoke and stopped, the pulley has smashed through the casing.
Now I think its fooked by what he says and haven't seen it but is there an easy way to tell without too much investigation if its worth fixing its done 200,000 miles
