Basically I own a VW Passat TDI S 6 speed Manual (2002) There is a horrible whining coming from the gearbox when I accelerate. I have had it looked at by my mechanic and he is certain its the bearing(Diff??) in the gearbox and that I would probably have to buy a refurb box or have my current one repaired which would cost around £800
I am aware this is a common fault on these. My question is does anyone know anywhere around the sussex area who specialise in these gearboxes or is there somthing cheaper I could do! Also how worse can it get? It does not seem to be getting any worse and I am very cautious on how long I can drive it for until it does go! Any ideas on this at all? If I do need to get it done I really want to wait until the new year but I am worried if itl last until then.
