I swear B3/B4 rev counters have got a life of their own ... once every few months mine will inexplicably fling itself all the way round into the red mid-journey and either drop back round again about 10 minutes later (again for no apparent reason) or stay there until the engine's turned off. wierd! :?

Nick, mine used to do this dodgy jumping revs and stalling business. If you move the throttle by hand and listen carefully you should hear a faint click as it engages the idle switch. If it's a bit gungy (like mine was) with years of engine grime it might not be engaging every time it needs to idle....
