Re: Rear Light Bulbs
They are not as easy to buy as you would imagine! Most garages will give you a bulb with wrong offset pins. X( Strangely the above comment are also true for Polo 9N - I wonder why? Lots of "I've replaced my faulty rear and or brake light bulbs and still they don't work" - or variations on...

Re: error codes
There will definatly be 1 for each bank before the cats I would assume there is 1 for each bank after the cats also (there is normally 1 pre cat and 1 post cat lamda on all the other petrol cars i have worked on) On the B5 petrol V6 there is only one probe per bank. If it has a modified exhaust hav...

Re: Indicator relay erratic timimg
In my experience it is the relay that causes this problem, its the hazard lights "switch" - just ease it out, or remove any blanks adjacent to it to make life easier. In its worst state, the indicators will flash twice or so and then stay OFF or ON.

Re: V71 replacement and airbag removal
Thanks for all your bits of advice, this job is difficult to give up on, but probably messier to carry out - I hope I've asked these questions for the last time and just leave the new V71 motor in the boot! My problem has always been that while I can do without recirculating function, currently the ...

Re: Front number plate fixings?
I think its (the mounting areas)just plastic, I changed mine and used stainless steel screws and coloured screw head covers, there is not much depth and so if you use screws that are too long they will hit the steel crash beam - but that will not cause any problem other than break through its zinc c...

Re: brake disc brands
i would personally go for the bosch discs for that price, :-bd the other two are horrendous, you end up with filthy black wheels & noisy brakes with them x_x Personally I'd reckon that getting filthy black wheels is a fact when using softish useful pads. Pagid pads were used at factory on the f...

Re: V71 replacement and airbag removal
groken, that picture could come in handy, so I've saved it. Just one thing, can you remember any details of what things looked like round about the flap motor area at the end of the heater assembly - ie second flap linkage? I tried slackening off a couple of bolts that hold the heater assemly on to ...

Re: V71 replacement and airbag removal
disconnect the battery on both terminals leave for 30mins after 30mins just hold your Foot on the brake for 5 or so mins Thanks for that, I suppose removing the battery leads, connecting them together for a few minutes, and/or switching the ignition on should disapate any stored voltage. Maybe the ...

Re: V71 replacement and airbag removal
I'd like to know more about this. I changed the V71 on my old MK4 Golf which was a struggle but just about do-able as it was on the very left hand side of the heater. The Passat one is at the back is it not ? If so how is it done? I've problems with the airbag and fan motor removal as I've swapped ...

Re: V71 replacement and airbag removal
i just took all the 13mm bolts out of the bracket & the whole airbag assembly dropped down then un plugged it :-bd Thanks for that! Still wondering if the "switch ignition on" > "plug in airbag" > "reconnect battery" is considered the correct way to do things.

V71 replacement and airbag removal
Right, I've finally got round to looking to see if I can replace V71 flapmotor without removing the dashboard. I've found where the motor actually is but now I need to remove the passenger side airbag so that I can get the fan motor out and see why the flap motor/linkage is not working (I know that ...

Actually no, I have a 2001MY B5 and when my auto dimming mirror failed I ordered in one with these LEDs for a later B5.5 - when I fitted it the LEDs worked okay.crazy4alfa wrote:If you have self dimming already it wouldn't be a big problem, probaby would need live feed.

Re: Intro and looking for parts.....Could anyone help?
On the subject of Dayco belts in general, my wife's Polo 9N came new with a Dayco auxiliary belt, so I was not surprised that when my VW dealer sourced a new one - really just for me to replace the belt when the car was 6 years old, that it also turned out to be a Dayco belt, what really annoyed me ...

I've used Gunson Easibleeds for about 30 years, probably now onto my third one.Yes they do end up leaking, but, I tend to place old papers round the reservoir area and cover the area on top of the reservoir and Gunson tank. I now never use a spare wheel, but use a garden sprayer bought and kept for ...

Re: what is this plug for ???
Thing is, you will need to identify that item and it WILL have a (very small) VAG p/n moulded onto it - otherwise I'd reckon your dealer will say "sorry mate" - normally if you can provide a "good" p/n they will order it in as you have done the leg work.

So you might be right about no A/C then, a slight coolant leak will make a nasty smell, though luckily I've only had that in older cars were you could taste the gycol sweet on your lips!

Re: My heater is on FIRE
I'm thinking that you would not be able to repair a leaking flexi quickly in a way that would hold when the engine/car were on the move - maybe its still leaking. I've know from the past, that an under used ventilation system does get smelly when first used - but that is when A/C is fitted, or you s...

Re: Rear view mirror
Its just the mirror assembly that you take off - to do this you need to take off the plastic cover off the stalk and unplug the cable then rotate the mirror assembly - I used a couple of drills of the right size to locate in the stalk. As for finding a suitable mirror at a sensible price, I'd reckon...

Re: VW Passat heating issues
Your Climatronic unit is indicating a recirculating flap servo motor failure, although I would still expect you to be able to get some warm/hot air somewhere from the system - although, with this flap motor problem, not where you might want it. So, if you really can't force hot air out from anywhere...

Re: Climatronic control ?
If the reported fault is 4AF and if that is the recirculating flap motor, then that one could be quite hard to change - the VAG P/N - at least for my late B5 with Climatronic, is 1J2 907 511 A . This motor V71 moves two flaps, one you can see if you remove the pollen filter - if you can see the fan ...
