Re: Tdi auto mpg, what are you getting?

110TDI (non PD) auto:

25mpg in stop-start traffic htw

42-44mpg all round

51mpg max on a 600 mile steady run

I've not had a petrol car that could touch it on mpg :D

Re: Met Police Lose Enforcement Powers

Here we go; change it so that someone on mediocre pay, in a uniform, working for a contracted out provider for a Local Authority (coz the LA won't be stupid enough to do it themselves) now gets performance related pay incentives to catch as many of us poor sods as he/she can  Private cars with...

My son's coming up for 16 and my daughter's 13. What an awful tragedy from something that's a rare opportunity for some innocent fun :(

My thoughts go out to her family and friends.

Thanks for the replies chaps :D So, 15" screen's the way forward: He's a teenager - carry something somewhere? grief, it'll be an effort to lift it on to his lap! There'll be some level of college work undoubtedly and he's got a Wii and PS2 for playing games on. He's mostly using the po...

Buying a laptop - what to look for?

Hello everyone I'm thinking of getting my son a laptop for his birthday, but I know absolutely nothing about them. He'll be 16 and leaves school for college this year. I'll be planning to move from hardwired (now) to wireless too so he need never leave his bedroom! What should I look out for in term...

Gary, I might well be removing my Neuspeed 28mm rear ARB soon, could well be a worthwhile addition to your car, F&R ARB's should make it handle very neutrally. Marc. La la laaa, I'm not listening :D .....trying not to listen....... ....must not listen....resistance.....futile.... angst...fret.....

Re: passat anti roll bar

I got an H&R sports ARB from Phillip Walker. Weighs a cartload more than the standard one, but very impressive at all but cancelling out the front end wallow without losing comfort or worrying about speed humps. http://www.ukpassats.co.uk/phpbb/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=2103" onclick="wi...

Re: lorry on the loose

Why the hell should the lorry driver get the sack?????? The lorry would presumably have air driven brakes - once the tank is empty the lorry wouldn't go anywhere. My Dad's TIR used to take about five minutes of engine running to get enough air in the tank before the brakes would release. So, unless...

Re: Uncommanded indicators flashing

Does the alarm siren sound?

If it doesn't, I'd say your alarm's going off. Could be the plenum issue (wet ECU) as mentioned. Could also be several other faults, such as a door lock module not telling the ECU that it's locked.

Getting the fault codes read might help you find the problem.

Internet Explorer and removing a BTopenworld comment

Silly but irritating. In IE on the blue bar at the top it says 'Microsoft Internet Explorer provided by BTopenworld':

Only it isn't - I'm on Tiscali.

Does anyone know how to remove this comment?

Thanks in advance.

Re: how to enter stereo code

The dealers can unlock it for you - will need the units code number (label on the side) and your registration number. According to my owners manual they'll do it free of charge, but I've heard some do, some don't. Don't pay any money to online unlocking sites - you'll likely throw your money away an...

Yeah I think you're right Matt, it doesn't throw a code in itself, but it's relationship to other measurables gives the tell-tale signs.

Curious 110TDI (AFN) 'misfire'

Car's felt a bit flat recently, so I have my suspicions about the AMM, but from cold today there a curious 'miss'. It only happens at tickover. As soon as you touch the throttle it misses a beat, just the once, almost like it was going to cut out only it doesn't. Everything otherwise is fine. Very n...

Re: Poor heater fan airflow in front passenger footwell

If you shut it off on the floor, does it stop the flow to the drivers side? If it does I'd take a pot-shot at something having moved that's fouling the airflow. If it doesn't I'd say one of you air-flaps has come adrift either at a hinge or motor joint. No harm in getting upside down and your head i...
