Re: Easy hidden wiring install of dash cam..

Thanks for the pics Tw@ :-bd Funnily enough I'm doing it as we speak, just come indoors for a cup of tea. I've yet to contend with that so called bitch clip. It has stayed on the pillar and I think it needs separating to locate back into the trim before refitting. I've run six cables up the pillar w...

Re: People in need of help in and around the South West..

It was a cold grey and windy day with rain threatening. Much coffee was guzzled and bacon sandwiches were scoffed. It didn't rain in the end but what did was my old clutch was swapped for a new one including the flywheel, engine rear crank oilseal. pilot bearing, pilot bearing tube and oil seal. Br...

Re: Easy hidden wiring install of dash cam..

Thanks for responding. I need to run six cables up there! Perm live Switched live Lighting live Earth and x2 signal cables So quite a bunch. I'm weary about just tucking them in, which would be easily do-able if it were not for the curtain airbag. I don't want those cables turning into very fast mov...

Long time no replies bat soup flu was just a dream. Tw@t, Casting your mind back.... Did / does your car have the side / curtain airbags? If so how did you run the cable(s) down the 'a' pillar? I need to run a few cables up and am concerned that they may get flung out into my face if the bag ever de...

Re: 2002 AVF no go

Going back to basics;

The anti shudder (air shut off) valve (ASV) is working, its solenoid, vac tubing etc?

If all that is good, I'd suspect the tandem pump, especially as there are no codes and you are reading outputs for the engine. Note that this could cause both ASV and fuel supply problems.

Re: Wheel alignment

From what I recall, your car is a LHD drive and you don't live in the UK? If so, a slight and slow pull to the right would be normal and normally caused by the road camber. We get this in the UK but in reverse, on a cambered road ours will pull to the left. Another thing to consider is a slightly bi...

Re: +12 Volt power from the Fuse panel or Relay plate... ?

Above the pedals is the buzz-bar which is the main power distribution location.

The 75x terminal is ignition switched.

However, if you connect anything to it (via a ring connector) you MUST fit an inline fuse as close to it as possible to the 75x terminal. For that load I'd be fitting a 5amp fuse.

I also got confused with the names and recently fitted Pioneer speakers in all four doors because I couldn't work out the difference between Jolly Big Lollipops and Jangly Vibrating Cumquats. Top tip; a hot glue gun for the tweeters works well Top tip; the rear door tweeters (on a B5.5) have a felt ...

Re: B5.5 Boring and on a Budget!

Been there a few times, getting an itch to change the Passat and then I refer back to my younger days when I spent a lot of money on cars. Looking back I'm always happiest in what is now known as a shed, but shed I know well. But then again, when that itch happens questions like, "I'm fast appr...

Re: Cam belt slipped?

Once it is set and assuming the tensioner has not undone the only way the timing can alter is via the outer camshaft pulley. If done correctly a belt change would involve temporarily loosening the three bolts on the outer cam pulley so as to allow the belt to be tensioned whilst timing stays where i...

Re: VW PASSAT B5.5. 2.5v6TDI

The V6 TDI's are lovely when in full working order. But to buy one now, as old as they are, you need to swallow a brave pill. The Bosch VP44 pump as fitted to them and many other cars, Ford, Vauxhall etc are renowned for failure. That failure can be either mechanical inside the pump or electrical in...

Wheels off and work back to the master cylinder (via the ABS pump).

Most likely to be;

Split hose (can happen on all four wheels)
Knackered caliper (all 4 again)
Hose to caliper unions, crush washers (again all 4)
Corroded brake pipe(s).
