Re: Door ajar dash display

Good job :-bd So now you need to find where water comes from. As you said pollen filter housing is well known for leaking. Reseal that and remove rubber grommets at the bottom of plenum drain. There's two of them I think, one is pretty much under brake vacuum cylinder, but still possible to reach. T...

Re: New one, Gaz will like this ;-)

My workmate have quite well equipped 3.0tdi quattro automatic. Comfortable and powerful enough, but one thing I hate on these. All buttons on dashboard and centre console has tendency to peel off black top layer. Even being at 130k miles, which isn't high mileage in my opinion. Actually something s...

Re: New one, Gaz will like this ;-)

Usual default answer of 507.00 . They seem almost rare those C6 A6 as the same car the B6 Passat out stripped the sales with it's better price . See how it goes , guess they suffer the same B6's short comings . Cheers, thought as much on the oil. Yeah B6 basically, although I have driven a few B6's...

Re: How do I disable H/L levelling?

Yes, I mean on that headlight which is causing issues to disconnect leveling motor. Not familiar with actual b6 headlights, but most cars have possibility to access leveling motor and unplug connector. On some cars is as simple as separate plug on outside of headlight. If looking at headlight diagra...

Can't you just disconnect headlight leveling motor on that side. I mean like unplug connector.

Sounds like CCM to me. If it would be microswitch in latch mechanism, then bottom light on door wouldn't light up as well.

Re: LED bulbs........what do you use?

They are flashing fast because of low resistance. Relay acting the same as if bulb would be blown. Why you want led bulbs for indicator lights? There are silver coated indicator bulbs which from outside keeps clear look, but when operating will give amber light.

Re: Intermitant blower fan on Climatronic?

My own experience: blower motor started to play up, bought a set of carbon brushes to replace old ones. When I removed motor, brushes were worn, but so was copper slip ring. It was that worn, that in some areas copper slip ring was completely worn through, so replacing only brushes won't make any im...

Re: Intermitant blower fan on Climatronic?

Most likely worn brushes on blower motor. Had exactly the same problem with my Passat years ago. If I remember correctly, there was few different types of electric connector, so ideally you want to remove glovebox and see actual part number. Then go from there.

Re: Is old diesel still usable?

If it's closed can, I can't see anything wrong with it. Diesel evaporates less than petrol, so should be fine. Probably in two days all knob heads won't have anywhere where to store extra fuel and you will be able to get it from petrol stations as much as you want. My local petrol station looks abso...

Re: The final countdown...a sad farewell!

I did over 120k miles in those 7 years, Passat was definitely quite robust. 365k when I sold it. Moon miles, but still was running fine, only flywheel rattle started to get quite noticeable. Now 3 years gone with BMW e39, 76k done by me, 250k currently on clock, and all I can say that car is bullet ...

Re: The final countdown...a sad farewell!

That must be little emotional I believe. I remember when I sold my Passat after 7 years ownership, still had a thought that maybe I shouldn't sell it for nearly a month afterwards. But then you get over it. Sticking too long to one car, or investing a lot in one car makes regret to replace it with s...

Re: What have I bought now!!

Subaru diesel engines are known to be one of the worst engines, failing without any signs. One night you park it on drive, next morning you can't start it anymore. In the end crankshaft has broken in half. Petrol engines will take more juice, but at least you don't get unexpected surprises with Suba...

Try to find someone locally, who can do fault scan, there might be some faults stored, which will point towards the issue.

Re: Headlight randomly flashing

LED bulbs can be flashing when car is doing bulb cold checks, basically when lights are off, car is sending some voltage for very short time just to measure resistance, to detect if any bulbs are blown. Led bulbs are lot more sensible compared to normal halogen bulbs, so you can see them flashing. U...

Re: Tyre Wear??

Too aggressive toe in setup on both sides will cause tyre wear on outside of tyres at the same time keeping car perfectly straight on the road. If you are getting only 8k miles from set, and you are not doing burnouts, track days or similar stuff, there's something wrong with wheel alignment.

Re: New rear axles

That could be quite hard to see from outside actually. All these beams have some surface rust around, but this one has rotten badly from inside. Could be very dangerous if snapped at high speeds so you must be quite lucky. Thought it's quite easily fix as well. Hardest part probably will be damaged ...
