You didn't catch my meaning. Those busses were not smoking at all like two years ago, it's more about technical condition not what and how much they are carrying.passartist wrote: ↑Tue Apr 10, 2018 11:37 am And carrying many people at once each trip, so your argument isn't the strongest.

Re: Outer CV Boot/Joint change - noobs guide written by a noob!
Ive used this from halfords for years on numerous vehicles. Can't remember what grease I used previous time, but current cv joints were on car for about 60k miles or even more, and they were bought of eBay for £25 a pair. Can't blame them. Knocking only while reversing, but I think I will get them ...

Re: Outer CV Boot/Joint change - noobs guide written by a noob!
Let's pick the old post up in daylight. I had my outer CV joints delivered yesterday, but while I will have drive shafts off, I would like to clean and regrease inner CV joints as well. So which grease is best to use for CV joints, suggestions please? I found this one, is it any good, or should I us...

I'm wandering how busses been tested, are they going somewhere to do mot test or it's just done at their garage. For example stagecoach busses( not the latest ones ) are smoking that badly when moving of, that you can't see number plate through that thick black cloud left behind. That pollution is f...

Maybe something wrong with tyres? What size they are, what pressure you are blowing in them?

I do massive miles in the work vehicles, id rather use cruise for its benefits, cameras, fatigue etc. I wish others would too, many who use the right foot couldnt excercise decent speed control if their life depended on it! :hyst In all seriousness though its a massive pita, usually the middle lane...

Better to get smiles per gallon than miles per gallon
My missus used to be quite good for getting mpg up, but she's a quick learner and probably soon there won't be much difference in how many times pedal has been to floor

Re: Rear brakes discs and pads
It's possible to bleed through brake hose as well, it is pain in ass, but doable if you are stuck with snapped bleeder and don't have any good caliper for replacement at the moment. I have done it once, two people are needed then, because you can't use brake bleeder any more on that caliper.

Yes it is, only thing is that you need to rewind caliper piston bank in, if you have tool for that, it's super simple, if not, it can be a bit pain to get them back in.

Re: 2 new wings for the paint shop
These will be just rough numbers because few years are around, but I remember my workmate took brand new audi A3 for around 21k £ in 2015, two years later he part exchanged it for brand new audi Q2 , audi dealer valued A3 at 11 or 12k £, so in two years about 10k £ was lost. And car was with very lo...

Re: 2 new wings for the paint shop
If it is even road worthy after 2019? It'll likely be priced off the road by then. But it's not like I'm one to talk. Plenty of projects that were worth nothing but cost me way too many hours. What's changing in 2019? Haven't heard anything about it yet, most conversions are only about new MOT rule...

Re: 2 new wings for the paint shop
I think that’s what it is mate. It did 1k miles with a holed lifter on the exhaust valve in cylinder 1. Thinking I’ve burnt out the inlet valve seat as a result of having no exhaust valve during. No getting compression when it’s cold so it’s misfiring. When it’s warm, has a hell of a tick and is st...

Re: New MOT rules regarding dpf (May 2018)
Maybe bad injectors, but that should show up on vcds then. Plus mpg and engine smooth running should be affected. What about remap file? Maybe because of that it gives more puff. Youneed to get doggy MAF sensor for MOT test, the lower MAF readings are, the less fuel is been injected because of smoke...

Only cylinder head off will give some more idea of what's wrong with it. You can try to measure compression before taking engine apart, because unburnt fuel sounds like low compression in one of cylinders.

Why not? Colin just passed his PD130 with 0.42 if I remember correctly, I passed my AFN engined passat which is even euro2 car with 0.47 in November. VIN plate value is 1.40 on mine. So 0.6 doesn't sound too unreal to get.

Maybe after 2003 there are some changes, at the same time when ecu started to monitor EGR valve.caprixpack wrote: ↑Wed Apr 04, 2018 1:35 pm The VIN on my 2005 tdi 130 is 0.60, how can they be so all over the show.

Try to preheat them 3-4 times before starting engine, if there's no smoke, glowplugs isn't heating good enough, so replacement should sort smoking problem.

Rebuilt cylinder head is always a good idea, plus at that time you can see about how good or bad is cylinder wear and piston movement side to side, plus you will have a new head gasket, because they are getting bad under age, mine was corroded and deformation was very noticeable. So your idea is good.

Ok, so I will clean as much as possible with wire brush, then hammerite and shutz on top should keep underneath the car protected from rust for some time. Would like to keep the car few more years, but with these amounts of salt they are using on roads you really need to think about protecting again...

Ok, once we are talking about it, what's the best paint for front subframe and rear beam? I know powder coating would be good way to do it, but I don't want to take parts off, so what possibilities are next? Of course wire brush to get as much as possible off, but what paint to use on then? I was th...
