How about the connectors between the door shut and door edge, common to break wires and get water ingress, maybe stopping power getting to the motor?

A small faff getting dogs in and out but the side bits are worth it for the protection of door cards etc

If its like my CC its at the back almost underneath the battery you should be able to see an ali block with several pipes coming out of it, I think the abs ecu is part of the valve block so if you removed it you would not be able to drive the car as the pipes would be disconnected therefore no brake...
