Re: Dr Colorchip

Mine's worked very well on lots of small chips, okay on lots of slightly larger chips, okay on very fine scratches, and not very well on deep (key) scratches. I might be able to show a pic of before and after if you can wait till tonight? It's very easy to apply so worth doing, you simply paint on, ...

Re: Master Brake Cylindar Problem?

I'll take it for another drive tonight and see what's happening - the most noticable things for me are it feels sluggish, and when I stop at traffic lights it doesn't role forwards anymore - the (front left) wheel gets hot after longish journeys - and my coil light comes on and it says "engine ...

Re: Master Brake Cylindar Problem?

Thanks, they are going to check / change the brake line I think when I next take it in there - could it be this? I think a bleed was done when the calipers were changed but will check again, and mention it could be the abs.

Re: Master Brake Cylindar Problem?

edit - just spoke to VW, they say there's an outstanding recall on unblocking the plenum chambers - but say that this is not related to the brakes ... Not quite true  The brake servo will vacuum water into itself if it's deep enough in the plenum. The plenum will only be full of water if the ...

Re: Master Brake Cylindar Problem?

I've had it in the garage, and they are still sticking, but the garage can't find a problem and thinks the master brake cynlindar is fine because the fluids are returning okay. Thinks I may have a duff new caliper?

any ideas?

Re: Master Brake Cylindar Problem?

Not too sure how high the water got - I don't think I've ever had any dampness inside the car - so hopefully not too high. Would I have any luck asking VW to cover the cost of repair if it was caused by the plenum drains? (which so far see to be a design flaw on VWs part). edit - just spoke to VW, t...

Master Brake Cylindar Problem?

My brakes are still sticking every now and then, I've had new calipers, new brake pads, new brake pedal sensor, And still the brakes sometimes stick - sometimes the car drives perfectly - then 20 minutes into a drive the brakes will start sticking and the car feels sluggish, and mpgs are down... Has...

Just unblocked mine - both were blocked :(
Just realised I forgot to reconnect the battery overflow pipe - doh

Is this common on all cars or just VW / Passats?

Re: Engine workshop light on!

Thanks for posting - I had a throttle problem today ! So sounds like the same thing. I'll get it checked as soon as possible - all the brake lights and rear lights appear to work correctly - so it looks like it it brake pedal / sensor related. (especially as it started straight after I was messing w...

Re: Engine workshop light on!

It's recently had a new cambelt + pretensioner, waterpump, alternator belt, coolant flush, and oil service... so it should be fine :( This thread suggests it's to do with the brake light switch on the brake pedal? http://www.ukpassats.co.uk/phpbb/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=3675&p=28670&hilit=+e...

Re: Engine workshop light on!

Cheers, I'll see if I can book it in.

The brakes problem seems to happen on and off :( which is weird because I've just had the calipers resealed, so don't know if they need re-doing or whether it'll need draining or what.

Thanks - found somewhere local who did it for £260 belt, kit, waterpump, alternater belt etc. The waterpump spinny thing was spinning freely on the end - so definitely needed replacing. :)

Auto gearbox problems can be expensive - a friend had his go funny - clunking and banging into reverse, and 1st, and he spend about 1k on a gearbox rebuild.

Car temp going up... then down :(

Normally my temp was at 90C all the time (after warming up) now on a long journey the car temp will go from 90, to 100, to maybe 120, then back down, and varies over the journey...

Any ideas what this could be? mpg is fine, coolant levels are fine.

Will have another look tomorrow

Re: Do I need new calipers?

It does have the clip on the front - does that mean they're ATE calipers? Would I need new caliper carriers for the 312mm upgrade? If you have a high miler its common for calipers to start ceasing - but the worst that you'll need is a seal kit - this essentially replaces all the seals and boots on a...
