Re: REMOVING INSIDE METAL PLATE

I cut the end off a bolt for mine and used a saw to make a slot and used it as a grub screw, much easier.

Re: Just did all of my belts

Yup just drain the rad, remove the two hoses top and bottom and unplug all the connectors under the plastic cover next to the power steering fluid bottle.

Re: my new(ish) car

It's the part with the electrical connector that sits between the air box and the air intake pipe to the throttle body, should also have Hitachi written on it if yours is a non turbo like mine.

Re: my new(ish) car

Not sure about the gear linkage but for the hesitation I'd first check the MAF sensor, mine used to hesitate something chronic and it turned out the MAF sensor was caked in rubbish, I also changed the fuel filter and it flew after that.

Re: REMOVING INSIDE METAL PLATE

You'll need to wind the window all the way down but keep the glass up (get somebody to hold it) or it won't budge, you will also need to remove the spline bolts from the door latch and disconnect the handle cable, there is a small torx screw under a cover which will allow you to remove the dummy loc...

I could be persuaded, make me an offer.

Drove the B5 today, it's eerily quiet without the foam filter.

Re: Just did all of my belts

Pretty straight forward, the tensioner didn't seem to keen to be compressed but it got there in the end and the new one was a bit fiddly to get the bolt to line up but other than that it all went back together without any hassle.

Re: Just did all of my belts

Must be the Devon air then. Many of the bolts were a bit stuck and I just found it much easier to unstick them with the front end completely out of the way.

Re: Just did all of my belts

First attempt was with the radiator in place just pulled forwards but couldn't get enough access to the bolts which were stuck in there, I did lose a knuckle or two trying though.

Job was so much easier when you have the front of the engine with no obstructions.

Re: Just did all of my belts

It's not too difficult, just required patience, oh and a decent 6mm hex bit as I found after mine stuffed itself. Only thing that went wrong was when I was putting the engine cover back on one of the plastic catches pinged off and wedged itself in the alternator bracket and I can't get to it, anybod...

Just did all of my belts

Just replaced all the belts on my Passat. all in all not a hard job just time consuming and a bit fiddly. I tried on saturday just pulling the front crossmember forwards but that combined with a couple of broken tools left the job unfinished. So today I bought some new tools, drained the radiator an...

I also don't want it anymore if anybody is interested as I've returned mine to standard. Just got to be ca...

There should also be a date stamped on it, mine was from 1998 and rather clogged.

Re: Power loss 1.8 20v petrol (x reg 2000)

Mine did the same thing a few years back (same engine) and there was a build up of dirt on the MAF sensor due to a badly fitted air filter. Took it out and gave it a blast with electrical contact cleaner and the car ran like it was brand new afterwards. I also changed the fuel filter as it turned ou...

Re: Fault Code Help Needed.....

Ello there.

I did clear the codes and once the key was removed and back on the same codes popped back up, didn't do a full scan of the system just a few of the main offenders. Forgot to check the measuring blocks though but not sure if it would've shed any more light on the matter.

Re: New Passat, New water leak

I used to have a pond under the carpet of mine on the drivers side. Traced it to a combination of a bonnet release grommet and corroded seals on the inner door skins. This is the seal that caused the problem on mine, it is on the inner side of the aluminium skin along the lower edge. I got some dumd...

Re: few technical questions about my new passat... please help

Not sure about the wheel or the brakes but does the door open from the inside handle? If it does then the cable has probably come unclipped from the handle. There is a small plastic cap on the door edge next to the handle and underneath that is a torx screw, if you loosen that you can then remove th...

Re: Rear wiper motor constantly on!

Think you'd have better luck posting in the B5/B5.5 section. B6 is 2005 onwards.

Not much help I can offer other than that I'm afraid but scanning the car with vag-com might help narrow down the problem.

Re: Loose Steering

I think you've got the right idea about changing the springs back before looking any further. It could be something as simple as when lower it adds more negative camber so the wheels become easier to turn due to a smaller contact area on the tyre but I wouldn't have thought there would be enough of ...

Could be the compressor, a clutch on it kicks in when the AC is activated, all other times that pulley is just free wheeling. If it's an 08 it should be under warranty still surely? Ask VW to have alook when it's in for a service or something.

Re: Removing carpets

I tried drying mine out with various methods but I think the only one that will work whilst the carpet is in the car is a dehumidifier, I didn't have access to one of these so had to pull the carpet out to dry, managed to store most of the interior in the boot, gotta love the size of them.

Not the easiest part to describe but if you look under the car in front of the rear wheels you'll see a plastic cover, remove that and look up on the drivers side and you'll see the fuel filter, a little aluminium cylinder. I believe the replacement part is about
