Re: Aircon cool air flow closes off in cabin after 20 seconds

Do you know where the cabin interior air temp sensor is located Mitch? It's worth checking the evaporator temp sensor, G263, which on RHD cars is located in the driver's side footwell (single T20 screw to remove the trim panel on the centre console next to clutch pedal). I had similar symptoms to y...

Re: DMF and clutch...done!

DSG boxes are a bit bigger and a little heavier and it is more difficult to do it that way so I always remove it. Costs around £40 more in bolts / nuts and around 30 minutes of extra dismantling (used to take a bit longer but I've done it umpteen times now). Yes, not sure I'd like to try with a DSG...

DMF and clutch...done!

BKP, 6 speed manual. Just changed the Dual Mass Flywheel and clutch on the driveway. The original lasted 180k of mainly motorway miles, but the DMF has been rattling at idle for a while and these things never get better by themselves! Ordered the Sachs complete kit (inc releaser) from Mister Auto an...

Re: Key Replacement and Coding??

AFAIK dealer is the only way to go, the keys are ordered in from Germany to match the vehicle. I have genuine VCDS and I'm sure it can't be used to code a key.

Re: Tyre wear and taillight warning

Tyre wear issues should be sorted by checking over the suspension and replacing any worn bushes, followed by a 4 wheel laser alignment. The inner edge of my rears used to wear badly in a sawtooth pattern that caused horrendous 'droning' while driving. All sorted with replacement bushes all round and...

Re: Fitting near rear epb motor, tips after breaking new one!

Key difference between the 'older' EPB motor and the 'newer' ones is that the motor drive spindle into the caliper changed from Torx to Spline, so a Torx motor will have an electrical plug without the notch, while the later spline drive has the notch. I'm assuming you have the right type of drive fo...

Re: A/C stopped working

It won't be recorded in the scan. You use the measuring blocks in Module 08 (HVAC) and read the data 'live' as the engine is running. Particularly the pressures in the system. Personally I wouldn't use Kwik Fit for aircon, I use a local mobile specialist who services the system on the driveway - det...

Re: Lost power steering

Looks v dodgy but those fuse positions are unlikely to be related to the steering gear. I would recommended that you get the car scanned with a proper scanner (either via a dealer or with VCDS, which is the third party scanning tool most of us use).

Boost leak? Worth checking the pipework and seals all the way from the turbo to the inlet manifold.

Re: Boot full of water.

Item 17 on this diagram is called a 'water drainage hose', so I should think that is what you are looking for... B6 boot.png Yes, that's the one. The top of the tube sits just under the slit in the round seal on each side of the hinge arm. The seals should gently pull off, but the rubber does peris...

Re: Boot full of water.

Had exactly this. Under each round boot seal for the hinge arms there is a drain tube that channels water down to the wheel arch. One of mine was blocked, causing the boot to fill with water. I cleared it with a 12V tyre compressor and have had no problems since. The seals do perish and can be damag...

Re: EPB Fault

The dealer should have conducted a function test, which opens the EPB motors to the service position and then closes them 3 times in succession, leaving the motors in the optimum position to function correctly. It would really help to know what fault code is being stored - this has to come from a pr...

goldfazer wrote: Tue Apr 17, 2018 9:06 am So, is there anything (maybe the auto-hold system?) that could affect this, or can it only be a sticky caliper?
Just to add that Auto-hold is part of the Electronic Parking Brake and therefore only operates on the rear calipers.

Re: EPB Fault

You need the right diagnostic tool to clear fault codes, typically VCDS, and this would have helped you do the calipers correctly in the first place. However, have you tried disconnecting/reconnecting the battery? You might be lucky.

Re: Locked out

The starter won't engage without a key in the ignition to operate the solenoid, but it does have a fat positive connection that goes direct to the battery. So if you connect a charged battery to the positive on the starter motor and the negative to earth you will have power back on the car which wil...

The oil red light came on today and I had noticed no problems before. Mine is a 56 plate B6 BKP engine with chain drive oil pump (2.0 TDI 140). VW UK were able to tell me in a couple of minutes that is was a chain drive oil pump. The car has done 110,000 miles. I'm running a chain-driven BKP even e...

Guess I'm mad for a car I really need to sell on - but figured I'd overhaul and keep as a spare - but I really shouldn't. Perhaps we're all mad! I just really like my B6, I bought it at 100k, now on 171k after four years but it drives so well and in a masochistic sort of way I enjoy working on the ...

Pay more attention to the faults with higher fre...

Too much of a control freak I guess. I do most of my own so that I know how it has been done although age and health are starting to interfere. Did this job on my chain-driven BKP two years ago, similar VIN to OP, but 40k later and still good. You have to lock the crankshaft (so aux belt and crankshaft pulley need to be removed) but you're not touching the cambelt so no major issues in that respect. Removing the sump takes some time, lots o...
