Re: Rear foglight not working - why not?
this type of socket stops the cars foglight working so only the trailer one works if it needs to be used at all. if you car one worked and you had a big white caravan on the back, you would get a nice bright reflection of your foglight off of the caravan. the older type of sockets are wired so that ...

Re: Rear foglight not working - why not?
here you go. when the plug is attached, these contacts are pushed apart thus cutting the circuit on your cars foglight. if it is broke or corroded then this will permanently happen even without the trailer attached. the 2nd picture shows how it should work. http://i227.photobucket.com/albums/dd83/j3...

Re: Rear foglight not working - why not?
the easiest way would be to take the tow socket off. then flip it over and look at the back. if it has this setup, you will see a spring tab. if this corroded or broken then the feed will be cut from your cars foglight but permanently sent to the tow socket. if this is the case, either get a new soc...

Re: Rear foglight not working - why not?
check the wiring in the towbar socket. when a trailer is connected, it is supposed to disconnect the foglight on the car so as only the one on the trailer works. this stops you getting a big old reflection off of the trailer/caravan. the socket could be corroded or the pin could be stuck.

alarm siren
I have a very quick question for you all. Is it possible to temporarily turn the alarm off on a b5.5 but still have the car fully locked? I am moving house on friday which involves carrying pets in my car on the ferry so the windows need to be open. Therefore I need to turn the siren off. I have a f...

Re: B5 How do i... (Updated) PUT ON Bonnet Release
you will see 2 little bumps on the inside of the fork. put a flat screwdriver in between them and twist. then the screwdriver will stay there itself. this allows you to use both hands to line evrything up before removing the screwdriver. easy peasy when you know how

Re: Not good at all!!! PD130
I've managed to fix the problem (it seems so anyway). I bought myself a set of crowsfoot spanners to fit on the end of a ratchet extension which allowed me to tighten the pipe union up a bit more. a normal spanner was just getting caught against the turbo. im a bit happier now. only time will tell i...

Re: Not good at all!!! PD130
I think I've worked out where the leak is coming from. I think it is the metal pipe on the top of the turbo but I'll have a better look tomorrow. I remembered earlier that I actually tried to loosen the pipe when doing the decat but the pipe just twisted with the union so I did it back up. I think t...

Not good at all!!! PD130
My car has developed quite a bda oil leak over the past few days. It seems to be coming from the turbo (the non exhaust side). I keep finding bigs puddles under the car when I leave work. I've just had to top it up with 3/4 ltr of oil. I've put a can of wynns oil stop leak in and I hope that it will...

Re: Upper scuttle panel
remove the little plastic fillets next to the bonnet hinges if you have them. they are a pain to put back in but will go in if you leave the scuttle loose so you can move it side to side.

have a check of the pollen filter. look near the o/s/f top suspension mount (engine bay side) and you will se it hidden under the cowl. you could spray some deodoriser down into the channel underneath it aswell and see if that works its way through. does it still blow nice and cold?

Re: So why should I not get the Tdi De-catted???
Update - decat now fitted, and i'm happy with the results. Turbo spools up quicker, no more smoke or noise, seems more responsive, possibly more power i'd say. Would recommend! how easy was it to fit? did you have to trim much of the new front pipe? I've got mine here waiting for me to fit it on fr...
