Re: Question about the radio
I had the same unit in my B7 SE. My I-Pod will connect via blue-tooth, like you say if you wish to change song you need to do it on the I-Pod. Bluetooth is very basic on the Passat. I had an older I-pod and it worked fine with the glove box connection and you can control the iPod from the steering w...

Re: Glow Plugs - Would you change them?
normal sign of glow plug issue is bad starting, if it fires up only on the cylinders that the glow plugs are still working, So you should notice the misfire until it get going. Misfiring is not good for the starter motor clutches. You can use multi-meter to check if any on the car are open circuit, ...

Re: How-to B7 headlight bulb change
Good to see you got bulbs changes, they are very easy to do compared to many other cars. The B7 headlights really are bad units. worst lights I have ever had. I fitted +50% bulbs in mine and the lights were then ok, nothing special. Every time I use my wife's Corsa with its standard bulbs it makes m...

Re: Repairing a bumper??
their is some companies that specialise in bumper repairs. I have done a few myself and I always started off by drilling a small hole at end of the crack to stop it spreading or returning. Then on the inside use a plastic soldering iron to place a layer of plastic solder to join both parts together....

The pressure plate will be changed its part of a clutch kit. Make sure you get a good one as it is the pressure plates that break and destroy the gearboxes. There is a thread in here about that one

Re: 11 million VWs under review?
It's a little more complicated than that. The NOx is reduced with a Lean NOx Trap (LNT) which works by adsorbing nitrous oxides from the exhaust. After a while, it becomes 'full' and it's purged by injecting diesel into it which reacts with the NOx to give nitrogen, water and CO2. So, to clean the ...

Last time I got pulled over was just after I completed the rebuild of my Vauxhall Victor VX/490. Went something like this. "IS that a VX/490, have you time to allow our Sargent to come and have a look at it! Had plenty time on hand and made the Sargent's day as he was a fan of this car. Said if...

For Question 2 I have 1.6LD and yes at times around 1350rpm you can feel the engine Surge in 5th/ 6th, never noticed it in lower gears. I had a 2,0L for a week and it was the same It only ever happens under light engine loads. I have seen felt this in many Diesel engines, not only VW. I believe it i...

I have the Michelin Prims all round on my B7 1.6L Saloon. they were worth a good 6mpg and they do hold the road in a better manner than the self sealing conti it had from new. As a 1.6 owner I'd like to know more about this "stabiliser" - it sounds like those odd ebay induction "mod" things designed for "roy bacers". I'd also like to know more about the software update and what it affects - i.e. does it just remove the "cheat" mode...

Re: Cam failure on 1.9D engines
The link pic is of a cam follower in a HPFP of a 2.0L tFSI, not of a cam follower that's in contact with a cam shaft/push rod and valve train. This follower wears out due to faulty manufacture by itself and then scores the cam lobe that's driving it. Not the other way around. Upgraded part £60 or ...

Or just connect it to air craft toilet. Far quicker than 20 seconds to remove oil. I bet some Dhead in Europe sees this and desides to make compulsory on cars to save planet from spils during oil changes. Can't wait to see their new rules they are about to bring in. Sensors to see if your falling as...

Probably emissions as air from Servo is unmeteted and may weaken mixtures. If engine is a turbo they don't always do vacuums as well.calumvw wrote:Why are they using a vacuum pump on a petrol engine, I don't get it?

Cam failure on 1.9D engines
Can anyone tell me if camshaft failure is common on the 1.9D engine in the B6.06 plate. Mate has just failed a worn lob and says this is common. All I can find so far is wrong oil or lack of servicing can cause this. Does the 1,9D suffer from any known lack of oil pressure or flow to head. Any help ...

Good that one manufacture has done it right. As mate found out once you have them there is not a lot you can do to improve them.

If you have the ABS system it sometimes warns after long run and tyre pressures have increased.
Just do a reset while tyres are hot and all will be well again.

Pondering replacements. Only the fronts are worn but I'm not impressed by the Contis at all. Even my weedy 1.6 TDI will make them spin at the front and they don't seem that stable when hitting a bump mid-corner especially at the back. The poop handling is the passat. Rear suspension is the worst I ...
