Re: Outer Widow Scrapers
Very hard to get hold of nowadays, the rubber splits then the metal strip inside rusts, making the rubber swell up. All you can do is search ebay, they occasionally come up for sale NOS, or find the newest B4 in a breakers and nick them off that. I had a perfect set on mine off a late VR6 a couple o...

Had to do the same when I got new ARB droplinks for the GT which has a big fat front ARB. Apparently only one size is now available so you have to grind them out anyway!

Re: Rear wiper remove / need cover or plug
Just glued on with PU adhesive (tigerseal etc). I thought about making it bolt on but was worried about it being over tightened and cracking the screen. I'll sort some pics out.

Re: Rear wiper remove / need cover or plug
On mine the hole was 23mm diameter which is a pain as most "off the shelf" grommets from DIY type places are all 25mm/1 inch. I got my cousin to machine me a round blank from aluminium, to a drawing I made. Wrapped it in black vinyl, worked well :) There is an OEM part which is moulded pla...

oops!
A b3 door would fit on a b4 but you'd have the issue of a bleeding great swage line running down the middle ;)

Re: B3 newbie - 1991 GT 16v Estate
welcome to UKP, looks like a tidy motor! Try and get hold of a glass sunroof out of a B4- fit straight in and seem to last longer- or maybe they're just slightly newer :) Heater is probably the flaps in the heater box getting jammed or the foam coming off. If you take it apart, it's well worth swapp...

Re: Any DIY'ers recommend a cordless drill ?
I got a 18v Makita with the carry case full of drill bits, screwdriver bits, spirit level etc. All you need is to chuck a tape measure in there and you're good for most diy jobs. I think it was about £150 on offer at screwfix. Other thing to bear in mind is if you get one with the 18v battery and c...

Re: B3/4 rear axle bushes
No they don't, Passat are larger diameter and you need 4 (2 each side). AFAIK no-one makes polybushes for our wagons. But Lemforder (oem brand) aren't too expensive from Euro Car Parts, especially if you wait for a 50% off weekend. About £60 for all 4 I think I paid. You'll need new pivot bolts too...

Re: B3 ... 4 window switch plate wiring
My car originally had the big 4-way switch but I converted it to the later 2-way in the door handle+dash switch type when I put the leather interior in. On a b3, the system is essentially the same just the functions of the big switch are split in two. I probably have the connector that I cut off the...

Did this yesterday. Electrical wire didn't work at all . But the "cheesewire" type cutting wire sold for removing windscreens worked a treat. Was about £4 for 20 metres  Worked best starting from the top, sitting inside the car with the front seat reclined, gives best angle for p...

Re: B3 passat brake bleed order?
I hate to contradict John but after my sister wrecked the master cylinder on my car doing the 2-man bleed method I've only ever used an easy bleed and always got a decent pedal. Only issue I had was the hose down to the clutch master cylinder splitting when pressure was applied, but it was evidently...

Were dual mass flywheels even used on cars 20 years ago? haha
Last clutch I bought was when I did the ABF swap and the clutch kit was £100 for a sachs one from VW, had to take the cover plate back on an exchange basis.

Re: Changing the clutch on an AAZ engine b4
Don't think you have to drop subframe, when I looked into doing mine it seemed you should be able to take off the nearside driveshaft and wishbone and drop it out the bottom. The subframe is all behind the 'box so shouldn't really get in the way. You have to support the engine as you have to0 remove...

Re: B3 & B$ parts interchangability?
Suspension, brakes, chassis bits, electricals mostly the same, as is the glass. All the body panels are different. Window mechanisms fit but the motors don't as they used a different control system on the B4, the motors can be swapped easily though. sunroofs can also be swapped. They made the switch...

Re: Replacing the 1.8 SPI with a 2.0 MPI?
Only thing that's a pain with mk3 golf looms is that the engine loom and lighting loom are wrapped up together and share earths so you have to separate them out. On a Passat they are separate so the engine loom comes straight out in one lump. 2.0mpi needs a higher flow+pressure fuel pump (1.8 spi is...

Re: b4 estate tdi managment light and heater control lights
Pretty sure these are the same as a B3. I would say that before you start fiddling, think "is a tiny bit of light worth it?" as the heater controls are made of the most brittle, easy to snap plastic ever, and by trying to fix them you're likely to do more harm than good unless you are VERY...

Re: starter motor replacement
If you have a Bosch dealer nearby you should be able to get it refurbed. Usually its the solenoid gets gummed up as the old grease dries out, so it won't throw the pinion across or energise the motor. Motor itself usually fine.

good luck finding B3 or B4 leathers in the UK!16vlover wrote:why? leather is what you seek? b3 and b4 came with those factory. availability? you have mk3 seats already? trade them for Passat parts.
when good sets come up they go for more than the cars are worth whole.
