Re: Moll EFB battery issues

My passat struggled to start once and the dash readout reported the battery was nearly flat. I would imagine it would detect so as it would be the car monitoring the output from the battery. I have seen a battery warning with my OBDeleven on another car so maybe so. What is the mileage and when was ...

Re: Any tyre recommendations?

Pirelli are about the best grip - this is because they are a softer compound and make more contact with the road The downside of being a softer rubber is that they wear quicker. I had a scooby that burned through a new set of Pirelli in 6 months. Its how you treat them! On the contrast cheap budget ...

OBDeleven only showed EGR value which is understandable as its unplugged.

I have bounced him to a reputable garage

Car stalls when driving

Hoping someone can helpnor point in the right direction. My friends Passat (my old b5.5) has developed an intermittent fault. I have not witnessed it myself due to the lockdown. Whilst driving he says all warning lights on dash come up as if you turned the ignition on, display says stop car and it s...

OBDeleven is your best bet - to see what adaptations are possible

Do you have a B6 or a B8 ??

Re: New car with issues

It's common for manufacturers to have the part that fit a range of models

And a quick search on ebay shows results for several VW's for the same sharkfin. Not many used or OEM to choose from though. Mine is colour coded but many are black.

Re: New car with issues

Not sure where the temperature sensor is but during last summer hot spell mine got stuck at 26 degrees and only realised when it was 8pm and felt cooler. It behaved the following day until it got above 24 then repeated the issue. I did a sat nav update and the issue went away for me. However that in...

Unlucky you had a lemon - every car has them A friend had an E class about 5 years ago -1 year old when he got it and had a plethora of problems and traded in for an Audi which he was happy with and vowed never to get a merc again. Yet last summer he shows me an AMG hardtop convertible. At the end o...

Re: High Mileage 2.0 R Line DSG - Buying Advice

Just to give you a update or food for thought Had a taxi last night and cabbie had a 2.0 tdi passat and was sat at 243k and ran as smooth as mine. Confidence inspiring. I quizzed and he said he does the minimal work regarding service - never had brake fluid changed, oil change when needed every 20k ...

Re: High Mileage 2.0 R Line DSG - Buying Advice

DSG oil should be renewed every 40k - so it's due again at 180k Check service history for things like fuel filter, coolant and brake fluid renewal. Main concern about higher costs at this mileage would be things like radiator, hoses at the bottom of the engine, gaitors, battery and alternator Also t...

Re: Advice needed

A bigger engine is advantages on the motorway if you going to do alot of overtaking, the turbo is there but not all the grunt of a 2.0 diesel Having said that, these smaller petrol engines with Turbo's, like diesels over the years, have come along way squeezing as much power out of them factoring in...

Re: Instrument cluster scratch removal / buff up

Probably an almost identical formula coming down to the size of grit I have used various pastes and polished things up like an iMac, bathtubs (both plastic and enameled cast iron) and a rough part of a windscreen - though I used jewelers rouge for that as per a guide on youtube. Hell i used baking s...

A small guide on what I did to buff up my instrument cluster Reason - The wife used wet wipes to "clean" leaving scratches as you can see. She has been warned to go nowhere near the paintwork! What you'll need: T20 Torx Screw Driver Strong Fingers Buffing pad and drill Fine polishing compo...

Re: Hello there

I believe a tool such as OBDeleven has the option to put the brakes into service position

It's a great little tool for £80 - which is the pro version, you dont need credits as you can do the long coding. I'd done many adaptations.

Re: Hello there

See the Stalling - Is it only doing this if the engine is cold? Or combination of being cold and really cold weather? Intermittent faults are not fun to diagnose. Your electronic hand brake disengages when in motion - it's not constantly abrasing. And are you meaning painting your calipers or discs?...

Jerky / Juddery Folding Wing Mirror fix / lube

Quick guide to sort your jerky wing mirrors. Mine were jerking quite badly and this has got them to be as smooth as when I got the Passat. It seems its a build-up of poo as well as drying out. I did the fix a few weeks ago and still great. You'll need: 1 - Dent puller 2 - Flat head screwdriver 3 - W...

Re: Hello there

You could rule out start stop by disabling it via something like an OBDeleven. I knew a Jag owner than had start stop and his faulted sounded similar to yours. The dealer updated it repeatedly until eventually, they both agreed to leave it disabled. However, if its under warranty get them to look at...

Re: Service schedule

I had my DSG changed and research makes it clear not to scrimp on inferior oils. Get the right one. Also some DSG's have a filter and some dont. The VW specialist i went to knew his stuff as he re quoted what i had read up online. Just to note. There was a massive price difference across the web and...
