Re: Dash rattle

Could it be a vibration from something plastic? Really it's just a tedious task of elimination but I understand how you can't put up with it although my passats have always had rattles, hate them (rattles).

Re: Refurb?

Like you say, it's a lot to spend, but depends how good you feel your car is.If you've replaced most of the wear and tear items, i.e. clutch dmf, drive shafts, DOOR LOCKS !and it's a nice drive you may as well keep it, but you're right about the colour :(

Re: Water pump and timing belt

It's not an outrageous price, but it's top wack for an indie. I had one done a few years ago, and they took all the front off, that was a 400 quid job, but someone used to vw would do it in a couple of hours.I would have thought 2.5 hrs plus parts.

Re: Tandem pump loose vac side

Gaz, I thought your simile,"Like excrement to the underside of a school desk" an excellent illustration of how the generations have changed. "When I were a lad" the undersides of the adolescent's desks depicted their newly discovered ability to masturbate unnoticed when our slit ...

Re: Tyre wear inside edge

When I do mot's, it's frightening how bad some of the tyres are on the inside edge. It seems that people have no idea about wear if they can see tread on the tyre. There was a mint AMG merc a couple of weeks ago and he just wouldn't have it, wouldn't even look !!! T' fronts were well into the cords ...

Re: Regrets ? I have a few.

It seems to be a fairly common tale, people moving on to more sophisticated cars; and fair do's, later cars do have more creature comforts. I think the b5 and b5.5 passats just have something that appeals to certain people, like the mk4 golf and bora. By b6's the magic had gone and I think when OUR ...

Re: Regrets ? I have a few.

Funny you should mention the Hondas mitchumb. I happened to mot an 07 civic diesel a few weeks ago and commented to the chap that it was in good nick. He said he was selling it, so I bought it for the missus. I have to say I am very impressed. Never thought of a Honda before, but the equipment is pl...

Gearbox off, flywheel off, then you can do the simple job of renewing the seal which is relatively simple.

Regrets ? I have a few.

It's been a few weeks since the passat has gone, and I have come to understand what it means to be the owner and driver of a car with no soul  I drove to South Wales over the weekend, a four hour slog through twisty roads, motorists going from town to village in no particular hurry, that needed...

Re: Getting flashed because of new headlights

When testing, testers look for a DCR mark on the lens or body, light emitted taking a few seconds to reach full intensity, and obviously the presence of ballasts, also the inevitable bluish tinge. Personally, though I am required to fail hids, there is no direction as to why this should be so I do :...

No you can't take it off ! The clicking is most likely the new pads moving in the carrier when the brakes are applied.Solution? different brand pads usually.

I fitted a universal one in the same manner as Desertstorm in the how to section, much better than fixing to the crash bar. Is it worth fitting? Not unless you are going to go the whole hog with injectors, turbo etc, but the choice is yours.

Re: New noise - drone

The job isn't difficult. The bolts on the front need to come off, then follow the line of the centre bolt through the block and at the back of the web to which the fan is bolted you will find access to an allen bolt, 6 or 7mm. Come back to the front, find a thin spanner for the centre shaft and ther...
