alternatively try using a 50/50 mix of pure acetone (not the stuff your missus uses for removing nail varnish) and auto trans fluid, very very effective especially after a little heat

once the lock nut is free and the end is out of the strut then use a 19 mm on the rack just in front of the gaiter and wedge it then i got some mole grips and unscrewed it using those.

lucky me both of my pinch bolts came free dead easy today (thought i would just tr it as i was in there) now heavily greased and on the annual maintenance regime

well just done mine today part no 038103483d 1.9 130pd avf no sealant needed as vw dont require it just make sure all the surfaces are oil free

complete rubbish from tps on the gasket its part no 038103483d loom is 038971600

halfords do good 22mm spanners try getting a 16mm for the pinch bolt that holds the top arms in whilst you are there. i undid my lock quite easily but hadnt removed the tie rod at that point from the strut

oh and dont forget to measure where the locking nut is before you take it all apart, a dab of paint will help plus a steel rule

just done one today on my car wasnt too bad 22mm spanner on the nut and 19mm spanner on the locking collar, you will see it ok, i would try and loosen it before undoing the pinch bolt and and top bolt a good splash of penetrating oil wont hurt either, got mine from eurocar parts 27 quid lemforder br...

pretty sure if you hold down the trip meter reset button and turn on the ignition it will then show

have just replaced the loom today and confirm that a new loom plus gasket costs around £87, not a bad job but warm the new loom up first otherwise you have no chance of getting it.

Do you have VCDS? if so you can see the coolant temp via that, my guess would thermostat VAG are well known for poo stats replaced countless of them, the sender isnt expensive and whilst you have an empty cooling system makes sense to change it, buy a new clip that holds in place they have tendency ...

The last one i did ended up in buying 2 special tools, the first the proper tool to remove the pulley, the second an angle grinder and discs from B&Q, you can guess which worked and which didn't. Apart from that pretty easy to do.

Yes it was a common problem also on the A4 which uses the same hinges, grease wont penetrate so use wd40 or acf50, and work it in by opening and closing the boot as you do it, they should free up, our saloon was like this when we bought it too

does anyone know what the specs are for a 4motion 2003 estate 1.9 tdi?? going to get it checked and adjusted on saturday as it's not really handling that well all bit loose despite some money being in lower arms etc.

kinda stumped on this one, went to change the cv boot today and fell at the first hurdle almost, my car is 1.9awx engined car, i cant get to one of the allen headed bolts as the downpipe is the way, what do i need to do get it out.
