How do I remove the gear knob?

My gearshift gaiter is worn and I have one being delivered via eBay, but how do I get the gear knob off? I've lifted the gaiter from the console and the gaiter is gathered at the knob inside a plastic ring which I guess I'll cut with a Stanley knife or similar. The base of the knob is a white shaft,...

Vanity mirror lights stopped working

A very minor issue, but if things are there I'd like them to work. Noticed the other day that they'd both packed in at the same time - does anyone have any ideas? I'm assuming if both have gone it won't be the switch (presumably a micro switch in each visor) or the bulb, is there a fuse for these? W...

Re: White Smoke?!

It may not be the turbo, could be valve stem oil seals - as car is sat for several hours oil seeps past the seals into the cubs toon chamber but is then burnt off quite quickly, if the car hasn't been sat as long then less oil seeps through, therefore less smoke

Re: B5.5 key fob - advice on reprogram

So, from looking on eBay it's about £6 for a chip, £12 for software and cable and another say £10 for a HAA blank and cutting - a lot cheaper than VW or a locksmith!

Would the USB cable be suitable, and how easy is the software to use?

Re: Noob owner questions

Was in the glovebox this morning and didn't spot it, I'll have another look - was piecing together the glovebox lamp which the previous owner had made a farmers bum of!

B5.5 key fob - advice on reprogram

Morning all, I've recently acquired a B5.5 saloon, which came with only one key as the other had been lost. I've seen instructions on here about how to reprogram a fob, but my question is this - If I manage to get a fob (3 button, same as the one I have) from a breakers would I be able to reprogram ...

Re: Noob owner questions

Monk - I tried my boot this morning, there's definitely an electronic lock mechanism and the handle acts as the switch. I take it yours opens ok in this respect, it's just the fob and internal release that aren't working? And Lee - you're a star, thanks mate! It was the keyswitch, looked for a defea...

Re: Lights

The brake fluid being low could point to one of two things - you have a fluid leak or, hopefully you just need new brake pads

Re: Noob owner questions

Cheers Lee, I'll try that tomorrow. I assumed that the keyslot there was to disable the passenger front airbag as my wife has one on her Punto - doh! Mr Monk - I'm no expert on this, I've only had the car since Saturday but - when you open the boot via the handle, is it purely the clunk of a mechani...

Re: Noob owner questions

Thanks for the info gents. Re: the boot release - I should have mentioned it works via the external handle, and via the remote, so I'm guessing the solenoid is ok but suspect the switch? Tried pressing the TP button, TP remains on the screen either way. Tried pressing it, pressing it and holding it,...

Noob owner questions

Hi all, just bought an '03 Passat Tdi saloon, and have to say I'm very impressed with it! Got a bundle of service history, but no handbook - so, first question: how do you turn the bl@@dy traffic announcements off on the Gamma radio, it's driving me mad! Also, would mine be a B5 or a B5.5, or how ca...
