Re: B2 wagon SYCNRO SWAP

Everything can be done in the end... :esm - you just have to get a donor Syncro and weld the whole floor pan and rear axle mounts of that car into your Passat to have a Syncro conversion. You will need a lot of smaller parts like all the pheumatic stuff for the differential locks that you may come b...

Re: B1 20v turbo?

Not possible without a heavily modded front end of the B1, so nobody ever built one. Even the standard 5pot is too long for a B1 engine bay and does not fit in. B1s are getting too rare for this kind of stuff, I think.

Would not matter that the car is in Germany if it wasn`t for that paint job. Most B2 enthusiasts there may not like it, they often seem to prefer factory standard

Re: gl5 arches

Unfortunately not - the wheels arches only fit the Passat (& Santana, of course) as they are tailored to the bendings and quite specific folds of its lower body (apart from the general size). Also, the Passat's wheel arches cannot really be mounted without also mounting the sillboard cover as th...

Re: WANTED BUMPER, late B2

Rear Santana bumper will fit to estate only with the estate pre-facelift mountings, otherwise the bumper will sit way too high for the tailgate to open. Saloon bumper will be difficult as that bumper is designed to sit higher, wheel arches will probably not fit. Fitting an estate bumper to a saloon ...

Nope, not any more. Cutting out from a donor car is the only alternative to building the rusted section oneself.

Re: B2 Passat Saloon

Thanks for the pics... - chrome looking somewhat withered, but rest seems OK. (The chrome trim on the sides running from headlight to taillight is not VW, just some aftermarket poo - looks quite questionable?) - Since the Santana was elected towcar of the year (1983? They chose the 5cyl, of course.....

Thanks for the thumbs up, the ride height will stay as is, but as for the wheels, I think a set of snowflake/scala alloys?? That will look like the car went off the line with the alloys, so no problem... :esm It's really a Santana but in the 1985 facelift, the Santana got the same front as the Pass...

No difference, as stated in my 1st posting - it relates to rear doors. Fastback rear doors are different, though.

Between the Santana / Passat saloon and the Estate it is a possible swap - the fastback has doors in a different size (lower at the top).

Re: Passat saloon/Santana rear seat removal??

You first need to remove the seat part - or did you get that done already? (You feel along the front of the seat, near the carpet: There are two push points app. between the legs / under the knees of the person sitting in the seat. You need to push these areas to the rear of the car - pushing on bot...

Re: B2 Bumpers Query

Yes and no, pre-facelift bumpers can be mounted on a facelift B2, but you will have the holes visible from the larger facelift bumper mountings on the sides (on wings and behind the rear wheels). The bumper on the bay is a facelift bumper, wrongly advertised as a "1980-1988" version. The s...

Re: Interesting alternative

No B2s in Australia, the car was never sold there, and even ozpassat's B1 facelift is unique to down under. Only thing you might come across are some formerly japanese Nissan Santanas in New Zealand exported there. VW was not selling in Australia in the 80s.

Yea they are similar but not the same, different numbers as well - the metal mountings and the way the are bolted to the car boy (horizontally vs. vertically) are even more different, as well as the way the mounts are fitting - or rather not - to the metal strut of the bumper... If you want a proper...

Golf or Jetta Mk2 clearly do not fit a B2 - who thinks of something like that?! Both cars are less wide than the B2, the mountings are completely different etc., so what are they smoking?

For a Santana, there are two original options: First, the "nameless" 13" alloys, here on a LX model: http://home.arcor.de/tilmangrund/pics_lx_w20/lx_w20_licht.jpg Second, the aforementioned "snowflakes", or rather, "Avus" alloys (14"), standard with the GX5: h...
