Re: Handbrake for rear disc conversion
I would reckon the cables would be a different length, as the mechanism on the calliper is at the top, outside the hub, as opposed to inside the drum...probably need to compare the two, as I'm sure they would have different part numbers. I'll have a look on VAGcat & see if there's lengths mentio...

Re: Window mech problems
Sounds like a power-problem. Check the wiring where it goes through the rubber bellows from the back of the B-pillar to the door. Usually, it's the brown earth which breaks. If you have a multimeter, check the voltage to the motor & then the resistance to earth from the motor plug (on the wiring...

Re: Help...brake disc mounting
1) So anyone got a spare n/s hub as looks a bitch to get the remains of the screw out, Don't bother- the disc is held in place by the wheel-bolts. Grind it flat, or mark the disc in the same place, & use it as a marker for disc mounting (for wheel balance). 2) Havent checked the rear discs as st...

Re: MOT question
Hi, I work as an M.O.T tester and would like to say, reversing lights are not a testable item, some testers will check they work so as to advise the customer,or if the car is being serviced to save checking it later.but they will not fail if they dont work. some things are down to a testers descreti...

Re: MOT question
Do vehicles of this age have to have reversing lights? My reversing light never worked, it's coming up to MOT time so i thought i should check it out. There is no bulb in the holder and no wiring to it either. Is this normal? I'm looking on the near side of the tail gate. It's a 94 estate. Sorry fo...

Re: MOT question
Front fog-lights are not a MOT fail if not working. Only rear fog-lights must work and be suitably bright to be seen. Your blank cannot cause a fail unless it has sharp-edges, which could cause harm to other road-users (pedestrians) in the event of a collision. The indicator type blanks on B4's are ...

Re: to tint or not
Yip, a light tint would do it...maybe a slight blue tinge to blend with the body, or a grey to match the wheels? If you added another "colour" with the tint, it would maybe clash? (dunno anything about clashing colours but I can make pictures in my head) !!

I had a similar problem wih the passenger door of my B4, when it was really frosty...it was traced to the locking mechanism on the rear edge of the door- seized & full of dirt. The door was actually locked the whole time! Have you had a look at that? If it opens from the inside ok, maybe it need...

There's an AEE code for a 75hp 1.6litre listed. But you're right, I can't find an ABE code anywhere...maybe check with your nearest VW dealer, to see if it's an error/misprint in the VIN no?

Re: 1.9 tdi conversion in a B3?
You'd need (ideally) the donor car & then you could match-up the wiring a bit easier...or find a guru to help ya! Very easy to mess it up & end up with a non-functioning turbo & (a) blown ecu(s)!! Maybe the 90bhp non-turbo from later golfs, B5's & polos etc(don't know the engine code...

Love it! OK, the B3 didn't have a grille but this makes it individual & plenty of people do that with their cars. Same with your light set up- not to my taste (trying to get B5.5 fog lights in my B4..nightmare!) but more power to ya!

I also had broken tabs on my o/s headlight but used some right angled steel plates to screw onto the tabs and headlight body to hold the tabs in place...I think the plates were made from a right angled bracket from B&Q, which would normally be used for holding two pieces of wood in a frame and I...

Hi Maky d, I've numbered the replies same as your questions: 1) I had a similar problem on mine- the small cast piece was put on backwards & wouldn't release from outside. If there is a spring in there, it could be something has broken & that's how they've tried to fix it...the outside push-...
