Re: Remote Central Locking
Hi you said its a 98 car, and the red light on the remote comes on when you push the buttons there is no red light on the remotes for that age of passat. The remote should have the semi circular buttons, if it has square buttons it for a B5.5 and wont work as the frequeny is different.

Re: Fault found?
If temp sensor goes open circuit the ecu thinks engine cold all the time and will run the glow plugs longer than usual, (a trick for testing power to glow plugs when engine hot, disconnect temp sensor) sensor is located in water pipe at rear of head behind and below egr valve pointing towards driver...

Since there is no requirement for a cat on a diesel car why dont you do as I did and make up a bypass pipe then you can go take the old one to the scrappy, I got £50 for the old one from my car, the turbo seems to spool up quicker with it removed.

Re: failed mot on co levels
Dont want to be smart but what was the HC reading? If it passed the HC check then its unlikely to be the cat, was engine really warm when it was tested? The reason I ask is we often get motors in which have failed the emission test at the local fast fit centre because they never made sure the engine...

Re: No indicator flash on locking!!!

Re: My B5 Taxi needs Rear Axel Bushes.
Only problem I had was the mounting bracket on the new one was a different shape from the old one so you couldnt just line it up against the mark left by the old one, needed to measure position of wheel in arch relative to otherside so dont remove both at same time.

Re: My B5 Taxi needs Rear Axel Bushes.
They are available from Euro car parts, they come complete with mounting bracket and are a simple bolt on job. I replaced one on my car and the noise was still, there turned out to be a knackered shocker. Hope this helps

Thought of that but due to shape of pipework it is impossible to see inside to know if youve got it all out. Have also been told the gasses going through the empty box will ressonate giving a strange note. other way would be to cut open box smash out cat then put pipe inside to direct gasflow and we...
