Re: I've that sinking feeling.......brake pedal
Had this on my partners daughters 2003 Civic and after changing the master cylinder twice (secondhand one first then brand new one) it was better but the pedal still sank, eventually changed the ABS block and that cured it

Re: Brake warning light.....
When you check the fluid level, slide a thin screwdriver down the side of the filter below the cap and see if the level goes down, have seen the reservoir air lock and the fluid stay in the top section, have seen this happen on a few Passats, to start with the light will come on when you go round a ...

Re: timing belt tensioner moves while rotating the crankshaf
just a thought, if your car has the hydraulic damper set up 2001/2002, when you bolted on the tensioner the washer behind it didnt fall off the bolt as you offered it up as that would let the tensioner sit closer to the block and the belt run further back on the other pulleys

Re: Spectacular smoke screen - now no car - Any ideas?
I took the metal cross pipe off altogether, blocked one end poured in brake cleaner, sloshed it about a while then poured it out, repeat till you stop gettig poo out of it, I threw my intercooler away and fitted a new one, if there's bits of impeller in the bottom there could be more trapped inside!...

Re: Spectacular smoke screen - now no car - Any ideas?
Forgot to say, the rattling you heard was probably like a petrol pinking and due to it injesting the amount of oil it did, mine rattled as well and when I tried to restart it it wouldn't turn over due to the amount of oil in the bores. My turbo had actually snapped the shaft in 2, the cam lobe looks...

Looking at pic of the turbo, the nut that should be on the end of the shaft holding the impeller on is missing indicating the shaft stopped turning very quickly, you need to find it!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Spectacular smoke screen - now no car - Any ideas?
Sound like the way mine went, turbo blown, oil from turbo feed straight into inlet then into exhaust, luckly I shut it down pdq as only had 1 litre of oil left in sump, had to replace turbo, clean out all pipework, manifold and replace the intercooler as there were bits of turbo impeller blades thro...

Re: Replacement maf sensor
As I said earlier, the same sensor is used in different size housings on different engines, it DOES FIT, I first used a Pierburg one 10 years ago on a AFN engined 110 Tdi, then in a AVF 130, I asked an auto sparky and he said he had 5 Bosch Mafs on the shelf but only kept 1 Pierburg, as he said hims...

Re: Replacement maf sensor
The Pierburg no you have 7.22684.080.0 is correct but remember that is only the sensor itself you then have to fit it into your own housing, 2 self tappers. It's the same sensor for a Tdi as it is for a 1.8T and even a VR6 Golf its the housing thats different! Buy the sensor by itself and save yours...

Re: Engine stalls randomly, no obvious problems 1.9TDi
I had a similar problem with my 94 Passat Tdi and eventially it turned out to be the cranshaftk pick up, never showed any codes just as you say it would die without warning, Main dealer tried to tell me it was the injector pump, sensor is £12.50 on Ebay, must be worth that to rule it out. VE engiin...

Re: B5.5 - replacement arches - to pay or not to pay
When you say replacement arches are you speaking front wings or rear wheel arches? When my car got rear ended last year the bodyshop quoted £650 just to fit and paint a second hand tailgate and rear bumper, and I had to source the bits myself, a dealer repair will be warranted possibly for 2 years,...

Re: B5.5 130 TDI Sport MAF
Back in the day I noticed a difference using the MAF for a Merc 220 Cdi on my 98 Afn engined sport it was more responsive in the midrange, I kept it and fitted it to my next Passat a 2002 Avf sport and it made no difference with the Pd engine, but from a reliability point of view the Pieburg manufac...

I remember having to bleed an A4 clutch and having no joy connected an easy bleed to the reservoir which promptly blew apart, got hold of a 2nd hand one and reduced the pressure of the tyre I was using down to 10psi and it blew as well!! Put that one down to s**it happens
