Re: Cambelt failure, advice needed
Hello, My waterpump failed and the pulley sheared off, this has caused the cambelt to shred, and the engine obviously cut out. A piece of metal has chewed up the crank gear so I need to replace that. I had a mechanic look at it on site and he has said that I will need to replace the cam pulley as t...

Re: 1.8t poor mpg?
Hello people! Well. Today was the day. Plugs back to copper. Temp sender changed. New/different oil. Also found the main crankcase breather broken!! All fixed within a day, took way longer than it should have done due to the pipe breaking up in the oil filter housing. So all breather pipes, oil coo...

No not a better option, I thought you may have an oiled filter, these can kill mafs if they are over oiled that's all.radley2706 wrote:Also it is a standard air filter, recently changed as well, is there a better option?

Get them out and fit NGK PFR6Q if memory is correct, the 1.8t really doesn't get on with them.radley2706 wrote:Also I have put the Bosch super 4's in, are the iridiums okay in these engines?

Re: 1.8t poor mpg?
Take the MAF sensor out and clean it with either isopropyl alcohol or contact cleaner, do you have a standard air filter fitted? Lots of things can affect mpg, split vacuum hoses, burst crank case breather ( a certainty ) leaky injector o'rings, coolant sensor as mentioned above, thermostat, old spa...

Re: Looking at a W8 .... What to look for ?
Dmcessential, I think it was, from what i read the small screen on the cam chain tensioners block easily and causes oil starvation. He had removed the screen on rebuilding the engine, he's finally thrown in the towel though. His build thread here: http://www.ukpassats.co.uk/phpbb/viewtopic.php?f=5&am...

Re: leaking intercooler joints
But what happens is the punched lugs on the hose sockets wear away and down over time allowing the joint to be very flexible and leaky. Eventually the wear becomes so great that the hose joint will blow when under high boost. When that starts happening you need to take counter measures and they are...

Re: leaking intercooler joints
Cheapest fix of all, remove O rings run round the O ring groove a couple of times with PTFE tape (plumbers tape) then refit the O ring on top, re assemble the joint and you will notice it's a much tighter fit. It's trial and error how many times you need to go round with the tape but it's not rocket...

Re: Radio signal affected by HID Headlights???
I have seen problems with light errors on the A4 b6 platform and the solution is to add another earth on the passenger side ballast, there was also another suggesting wrapping the ballasts in tinfoil, might be worth a try as they are both inexpensive and may do the trick.bbg404 wrote:Any other input on this??

I remember years ago reading about a Ford Galaxy that couldn't be scanned at the Ford dealer, long story short, they took it to VW dealer and it worked no problem.

Re: Won't idle when cold and lack of power 1.8 non turbo 199
First of all I would give the throttle body a good clean, they can cause idle problems when dirty as the dirt stops the butterfly valve from sitting in the correct position. Other possibilities are a faulty MAF or the coolant sensor both are common failures on Vw/Audis. Can you get it scanned for fa...
