Re: Any ideas? Starting to drive me mad.

Ok, if theres been water for any length of time in ccm and loom area you need to check more than just ccm and plugs. In several places inside the loom itself running down inside of left sill under carpet there are a number of wiring splices, these are groups of wires joined by sort of spot welding/s...

Re: Drivers side rear footwell leak

No probs, just going from my own experience. Theres plenty more able to help here than me :)

Weve all turned up here in the past asking the same questions lol, one of the great things about UKP is folks get their hands dirty, solve problems and then come back and help others.

Re: Keeping our Passats running smooth..

Good thread. As for fuel pumps the worst that can happen if too much oil leaks into fuel is an engine runaway. Dont know enough to say if these engines are susceptible though. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diesel_engine_runaway http://www.myturbodiesel.com/1000q/stop-runaway-diesel-engine-how-to.htm ...

Re: Gearbox linkage rebuild kit

Hm ok thanks. Could swear I read of it, can only find 2 part numbers for the 6 speed linkage.

4D0 798 151
8D0 798 151

Never mind my replacement came from a 24K 2005 car, should be about as good as it gets.

Re: Gearbox linkage rebuild kit

Not sure, gearstick assembly is same I think but the gearbox end of one of the linkages is different for 6 speed.

Might phone TPs and see if they can figure it out for order.

Agreed, I joined there too but it just didnt seem to have the participation or momentum this place has. I mean no disrespect. Also, its all VW and there seems to be few Passat afficianados there.

Re: Tyres XL or Not

XL rating is usually for vans and vehicles carrying heavy loads on a regular basis.

Unless youre hauling stone, metal or other vast loads in the boot I would say XL is not necessary for you.

Good to see some interest. No specific thoughts yet, just throwing it out there to see if theres any interest and see how it gains momentum. There are other UKP meets around the country, as the site grows Im sure it would be cool to see it grow at a regional level :) My car is no show car, just an h...

Re: Only old men drive Passats?

Personally I love the white heat rage and abuse I can see in the rear view when I pass cars on the Hexham to Alston road, or just generally. Ever since I drove my first mad diesel Ive loved the sub intelligent reactions of some drivers. I once passed the same car 10 times from newcastle to london, I...

North East Meet

Wondering how many of us could muster an informal NE England meet. Im thinking somewhere between Sunderland and Newcastle. I realise this might require some suspension of hostilities but its in the name of a good cause lol! Also, this could extend west as far as Carlisle or north as far as Edinburgh...

If you use conversion kits in normal reflectors then dont be upset when someone kicks your headlights in. Please research the correct use of types of headlights and replacement headlights before just sticking the wrong bulb in the wrong headlight unit. Most stock and OEM reflectors are totally wrong...

Re: Drivers side rear footwell leak

Door panel seals, or door seals. Check your door hinge bolts are tight and the door shuts properly, then check the rubber door seals are ok. Youll need a spline bit of the correct size, otherwise referred to as "triple square", sorry cant recall exact size offhand. Having done that then lo...

Gearbox linkage rebuild kit

Hi folks, need a part number.

Lost my notes, I was tracking down a linkage rebuild kit for 5 speed manual B5/5.5 gearboxes, theres a proper VW part number for the kit.

Got a super low mileage linkage and gearbox assembly off ebay and looking to apply the rebuild kit before I stick it on the car.

500ml of low ash mineral 2S on top of 1/5 of a tank then tank filled to brim with shell normal, Castrol I think, will repeat next time then go down to 100 - 200ml per fill. Just did a few miles, engine feels a little smoother, idles quieter and revs a little more freely. Not expecting massive differ...
