Re: lower front suspension arm

Hi chap

There are two different sizes, 16mm and 20mm and as yours is a late model B5.5 it will be 16mm that you need. I believe they changed to 16mm about half way through 2001.

Re: [emoji2357]Sump bolt cross threaded on the female side

Heli Coil is an OK fix. Maybe time to invest in a vacuum pump oil remover, no need to remove sump plug again as you go in through the dipstick hole, and then you can remove oil filter and get oil left in there too. Like this: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/162370989831?epid=23017014869&hash=item25ce...

Usually down to the mechanism needing lubricating. Can you take the cover off and get some lube up in there?

Great result, maybe that the pins in the plug are corroded and just needed a clean. But glad you've got a fix.

Good work chap, it's exactly what I will be doing sometime in the New Yearish.

You could have fixed your air con whilst the front was off haha

What's the big breaker bar contraption? Does it lock one direction so you can undo/tighten in the other?

Re: CCM issue??

Have you checked the taped up joints in the wiring loom, it's where two wires splice down to one, these are just before it enters they CCM? They often go green and oxidise and start to crumble. Mine had simply split in two liked in the pic. I rejoined them and all was well again. Sent from my SM-G77...

Re: Here's an interesting one... What's this goo from?

Update.

This is oil sludge caused by leaking crankshaft oil seal. Think as it's been mixing with clutch dust it's caused this paste.

Bellhousing was full of it.

New clutch/DMF and seal fitted.

Case closed.

So All done and completed, took a little longer than I'd wanted but I think that's because I'm impatient. Fitted new LuK dual mass flywheel, LuK clutch, release bearing, pilot bearing and crankshaft oil seal. Had a mare getting the box to mate up to the block, didn't help that I was doing this job a...

Did you replace with the exact same looking one, as I cannot find a new one anywhere, only second hand. Part number is 038 103 171 b but that brings up other seals that look like they would fit but they have a few more mounting holes, kind of like the type that would fit a few different engines... S...

Re: Today I will mostly be doing this.....

Looks leaking for good while. Was clutch slipping as well? You know what, I hadn't noticed it slipping. I don't drive with a heavy foot so it may have been for a while. I think I've pre bought the wrong type of seal. There's a choice of two and I chose the wrong type, is the one below the carrier a...

I know how lucky I am to have the garage, it's awesome. I help as many mates as possible with their motors. Well got the box out by myself, my helper cancelled due to isolating. On initial inspection does this look like the oil seal has gone? It's def from the engine side so I'm presuming it is. I'v...

Making a start on the clutch and DMF replace. Lovely warm garage, cheesy Christmas radio, endless tea supply and my two 14yr old lads to help the old man when needed. Oh and a good mate Janski coming over to help out as my back is foobared! https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20211220/4d54dea3b80e26ee6...

Aye sorry should have said, tested the fumes in the coolant reservoir and it confirmed it.

Very happy with the Touran, I've still got the Pashat, it's the missus that has the Touran.

Re: OK, can I ask the hive mind something please...

Quick update.

Holts Wandarweld did the trick, worked a charm.

Soo we quickly Part X'd the Poolo against an 09 Trendline Touran for the missus.

Job done and only cost £12.

Re: Well it's pouring instead of raining... Gearbox!

OK so LuK DMF and clutch kit ordered (bagged a deal for an unused kit off off eBay for £300) which I'm pleased about, and treated myself to an Milwaukee Fuel 18V impact wrench for Christmas. Should help the job go a little easier, plus I love new gear :D I will probably redo the pilot bearing and cr...

Yeah I did release bearing and spigot bearing etc. Didn't do clutch or flywheel as both appeared fine....

Hindsight is wonderful, bit it doesn't put £400 in your wallet, and at the time I couldn't do it even if I wanted..

Re: Well it's pouring instead of raining... Gearbox!

Cheers guys, I have looked into the option of single mass, and even though the price point is attractive, I really don't want to be detonating the box any point soon. I'm not an aggressive driver, spirited driving when it needs to be. So I reckon it's just come to the end of its lifespan. Sent from ...

Well it looks like my DMF is failing so will be fitting a new one very soon. I know you mentioned you used a bar to lock the flywheel so you can get the 6 bolts undone, is there a locking tool of this job? I have found one that fits in the inspection hole to lock the wheel, but not sure if this is m...

Re: Well it's pouring instead of raining... Gearbox!

I think the DMF is about 4-5yrs old, and as I have had a stage one remap and other few bits n bobs it does seem likely it could be this then. It hadn't crossed my mind that a DMF has any 'springs' etc as in my head I thought it was solid. Not had any dealings with one before so I usually learn about...
