Surely if you have just spent out on a recon engine for your passat the 0 mile engine will be fine for a while?
Best off getting some use out of it as I can imagine the engine repair was cheap

Did you sniff exhaust gasses in the coolant bottle?

The manifold flap could stick closed and let no air through but I would of thought it wouldn't run with it closed.
Have a look for boost leaks and signs of oil around the boost pipes first

I'd go kmb, they have been around for years and have a really good reputation. Many on here have used them with no problems

Is there anything wrong with you current passat or major expenditures coming up? As Gaz said you could just be pumping lots of money into a newer car that still could have problems!

So is it a 5yr old belt? Personally wouldn't risk re tensioning a old belt

Think you answered your own question there, the first way makes a really effective bond. That's the best way as if you just seal on top the metals the water will work it's way in and around

Did mine a while back and managed to get it in without taking the front off by lifting the engine. But defo go for the rubber one over the foam

There's a b5.5 estate with fake graphic rust outside of city motors in brislington too, drove past it and brought a tear to my eye!

You don't need to take the front off just pull it forward. I've got some long threaded bar I stick in a bolt hole and use it as a guide then pull forward on the bar

I didn't mean the rubber ones I mean the metal pipe from the exhaust that flows the gasses, could have a blank plate fitted or possibly blocked.
Egr will open and close at certain points when driving.

That one way valve shouldn't make a difference as the pipe is vacuum so should just keep sucking. The elec valve should control the egr opening. Have you checked for vacuum to the valve? Have you made sure the egr pipe to the valve from exhaust is clear with no blocks, also the vacuum will open the ...

Both decent wouldn't really say ones better. I've got a luk kit in my awx and it's spot on, only bought that brand due to price
