Just had it remapped

Hi guys, I just thought I'd throw a recommendation out there. I had my PD100 remapped by Simon at CCC-Tech last week and both the economy and performance are massively improved. If you've not had this done to yours yet, get it done. Give Simon a call too because he is mobile and can come to you at y...

B5.5 PD100

Hi Simon. Just a quick message to say thanks again for your visit last week. I've now run the car for around 500 miles on the new map and the difference is nothing short of astonishing!! The performance difference is just amazing, it's like a totally different car, and the economy, well I'd say abou...

VW MFD1 install (picture heavy)

Hi there chaps and chapettes, I thought I’d post up about the install I’ve just completed on my 2002 B5.5 wagon. I bought the car late last year and really like it, but I wanted a nav unit installed. My last 2 Tom-tom units got stolen from different car so I really didn’t want a standalone uni...

Re: Is anyone still running an MFD1 nav unit?

Well I just fitted the cable and took it for a quick spin and it seems to be learning. It's currently a couple of hundred yards out and getting better. I'll keep running it and update this post when it's a bit clearer.

Thanks again to all that contributed :)

Haha, cheers. It was a bit scary. Luckily the tide was on its way out, which should really have triggered my brain NOT to drive on the sand!! Oh well, every day's a school day :hyst :hyst

My B5.5 estate

Hi y'all. I thought I'd post a story and a couple of pictures of my Passat in its current form. I was offered a weekend away in Newquay for me, the misses and our little 'en in exchange for a few hours work on the Friday morning which we really needed. So one morning, while looking for a nice place ...

Re: Is anyone still running an MFD1 nav unit?

I think so, it certainly seems to be doing more since changing the disc but I won't find out for sure until I add this other cable. Where did you get your later disc by the way? And are you doing anything with the 2008 disc?

Re: Is anyone still running an MFD1 nav unit?

the cable should be the answer then dude, needs a spped input on the other block along with a couple of other bits to work....... nearly there...... Cheers fella. I had a play with it today and it does know where I am and does follow me to a degree, it just takes a while to catch up. It's not said ...

Re: Is anyone still running an MFD1 nav unit?

when i got mine it wouldn't read discs, made a nasty scraping sound. It took me about 20 mins to whip the lid off and unscrew the mechanism and find a loose spring rolling around in the bottom. While the mechanism was out, i was able to insert and eject discs manually, just to check it was all ok. ...

Re: Is anyone still running an MFD1 nav unit?

Hi. I did get the Nav disk and it seems to work to a certain point. I still get told that I'm not on a digitised road though. I'm frantically looking for a genuine GPS to use, just in case my cheap eBay one is at fault.

Yep, sounds like it's working fine but just reloads itself. I'll get in there with my toolkit, that'll learn it ;)

Re: Is anyone still running an MFD1 nav unit?

There is an eject button on it but I think the casing is stopping the disc from physically ejecting the disc. It's just a copied DX software disc that's stuck in there so I'll sort it somehow ;)

Re: Is anyone still running an MFD1 nav unit?

I had an email a few minutes ago from the seller saying that it's been shipped, so I'll let you know when it gets here. Only problem I can see me having is the disc that's in there doesn't seem to want to eject, so that should be fun!!

Opinions of those eBay chip things

Thanks guys, you've confirmed what I was suspecting. Where are these awesome GTI lot? I've heard of them a few times now. It sounds like peanuts to get the car mapped when considering the fuel economy increase. Is there anything I should do before a remap?

Opinions of those eBay chip things

Hi all. Can you give me your opinions of those cheap eBay chipping boxes please? I was talking to a mate of mine who fitted one to his Audi A4 about 20k ago and he swears by it, but I've no idea what they actually do. I know a reasonable amount about turbo's and stuff from my Mitsi but how do these ...

Re: Is anyone still running an MFD1 nav unit?

8 satellites is plenty, dx discs are very difficult to copy, or I should say it is very hard to get a working copy. There is a guy selling copied discs on ebay, buy one if it doesn't work get your money back. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VW-Sat-Nav-Cd-Mfd1-UK-IRELAND-/251063362553 Nice one, cheers fel...

Is anyone still running an MFD1 nav unit?

Dearly beloved. I recently bought a genuine VW MFD1 nav unit and was wondering how many other people are running one. The sound quality on it is FAR better than that of the BETA unit I was running before and I'm generally very happy with the look and sound of it. However, I've never managed to get t...

Ford MFD1

Hi chaps. Can I use the MFD1 sat nav unit from a Ford (Galaxy I think) in my B5.5? I know the startup logo will be wrong but will it all work off my standard stereo wiring.

Thanks

New boots on my wagon

Hi all, I thought I'd post a couple of pics of the new wheels I just fitted to my B5.5 estate. They're straight off an Audi A5 convertible and I love them!! 18x8.5's so they fit on beautifully with no need for spacers. I am going to have to get some spigot rings though as the bore size is bigger on ...
