Re: Part number help?

That O ring is the same one used on the thermostat housing, so if you intend replacing the housing and the thermostat at the same time you will probably not need to buy another O ring, because the thermostat housing (pipe union) is usually supplied with an O ring in place, and the thermostat, provid...

Re: ULEZ Zones

I am, on a basic level, in favour of schemes that reduce pollution, as I am sure are most people, after all you have only to look at the world's climate to see that something needs to be done. However, this is certainly NOT the way to go about it. If access to a city centre is to be denied to vehicl...

Re: Rear Brakes Overheating.

Just read your first post again and cannot see any mention of new discs having been fitted. I assume they have been changed, and you just neglected to mention it, but if not, perhaps that should be considered? It may still be worth changing the flexible (rubber) hoses on the brake lines to the rear ...

Re: Rear Brakes Overheating.

My, (considerably older at 23 years), SEAT recently had a hot rear brake, (both sides affected but one was much worse than the other). Changing the flexible brake hoses, (two per wheel), fixed the problem. This is down to the hoses degrading over time and collapsing internally, thus retaining some r...

Re: additional carrier bag hook in the boot

In that case it is probably designed to have just the one.

If it is on the driver's side on a RHD car it would be on the passenger's side for a home market vehicle, which would be, generally speaking, in keeping with the intention to fit just one.

Re: additional carrier bag hook in the boot

Cannot answers your question from experience, but it is possible that there are holes stamped for a second hook, and you have just not recognised them. Assuming you mean the double-sided hook on the underside of the rear parcel shelf, (the roof of the boot), the part number is 1K5867615A, which can ...

Re: Cooling fan coming on?

Irrespective of the fact hat it has been disabled, I am pretty certain that the radiator fan will still run, irrespective of the coolant temperature, if the AC is switched on at the heater control. Try that first...... it may be that the fan is operating as it should and that if you switch the AC of...

Re: Incorrect replacement rear caliper sent out by Autodoc?

The callipers are different between left & right, but are NOT different between LHD & RHD cars. Part numbers shown in VW parts listings are not necessarily helpful because they are only the number for the (current) replacement item, which often changes over time and may be a different design...

I have no experience of your car or its gearbox, but I have had a look at the parts diagram for the 5 speed auto gearbox, gearbox codes: CJU,CJV,DCS, DDS,CJW,CJQ, CJY,DRD,DSS The 4 speed gearbox is basically the same at that in my 2000 SEAT, and I am pretty certain that the slightly different design...

Re: Cooling fan coming on?

The radiator switch is there to operate the cooling fan(s) if the coolant temperature in the radiator exceeds a certain value. This happens if the airflow through the radiator is, for some reason, unable to remove enough heat from the coolant as it passes through the radiator core. Most usually this...

Re: Misfire on low revs

It is more about stopping foreign objects from falling in there, (nuts, clips, that kind of thing). A piece of rag about half the size of a handkerchief per hole should do the job. There is no massive vacuum, just don't try plugging it with the likes of ear plugs or similar small things.

Re: Misfire on low revs

It looks pretty well identical to me, but I have no personal experience of these engines. The thing with your situation though, is that you need to test the actual injectors, so do not remove the fuel lines as you need them connected to be able to conduct your test! Also, if doing this kind of thing...

Re: Misfire on low revs

Yes, everything you said is correct. There was no petrol in the cylinder when i removed the spark plug. My thinking is that even if the cylinder was running dry, if the spark plug was sparking, there would be some signs of burning on it (or maybe not)? There is such a thing as spark erosion, but gi...

Re: Misfire on low revs

I assume you mean that when you swapped the coil packs over it was still the case that disconnecting No 3 made no difference to tickover (no matter which coil pack was fitted to No 3). If that is the case it would certainly suggest the coil packs are all OK. You could try swapping the No 3 spark plu...

Check the PR codes for your car, (the codes for optional extras and build spec). They will be on a sticker inside the front cover of the service record book and in or near the spare wheel well. PR code 7K3 = Tyre pressure control frequency 433 MHz high level version There may be other codes for diff...

Re: Misfire on low revs

What you have said tends to suggests that it is not an ignition fault. I do not know if your car stores fault/error codes, if it does, they may give you an idea of where to look. Is the engine more difficult than usual to start, and/or do you have poor fuel consumption? I am just wondering if you pe...

Re: Misfire on low revs

If it misfires at tickover, try disconnecting the spark plug connectors one at a time, (do this with the engine and ignition off to avoid the risk of a shock). If you have a coil pack that is not firing, when it is disconnected you will see no difference, whereas when you disconnect any of the other...

Re: B8 Estate Internal Rear Window Shade Clip

Improvement If you can obtain a drill bit in the right combination of diameter and length, drill the hole to the desired depth and Araldite the drill bit itself in the hole as the basis of your new pin. That will make for a very snug fit and a strong metal spine for the new 'pin'. In many pound-shop...

Re: B8 Estate Internal Rear Window Shade Clip

Revision. Thinking about it, here is an easier way: Use a length of steel wire such as piano wire, (available from model shops etc), or perhaps a nail with the head removed. As before, drill a hole in the clip that will accommodate the wire as a snug fit. Ensure the protruding wire is cut to be slig...

Re: B8 Estate Internal Rear Window Shade Clip

Possibly repairing the existing item. Do you have the part that has broken off? If you do, it might be possible to refit it. If, as I suspect is the case, you do not, here is a suggestion. This will need a steady hand and the ability to keep a power drill level! 1. Measure the diameter of the remain...
