Re: Maintenance checklist
------------------------- other than that it's been tyres, brakes and oil and filter changes every 9-10k. Thanks for the heads up. The brakes on this one has already gone 10k miles and they actually still look rather decent, will hold off on it I think. Will try and see when the filter was done las...

Mines a 2010 but the 140 version and is currently on 117k, I bought it just over 3 years ago on 58k, issues to date, two different Exhaust Gas temperature sensors, both of these were around the 75-85k mark, rear lower suspension arm inner bushes worn resulting in scrubbed inner edges of the rear tyr...

Did them yesterday, 3 of the 4 nuts came off fine, only had one where the splines rounded off so that was removed with a grinder, Meyle HD replacements come with a 16mm flat on the back of them to stop them from spinning which is a much better idea. Nice to have a quiet ride again.

Re: Front Drop Link Replacement
Cheers guys, a job for Friday after I've had the nearly new rear tyre replaced thanks to a screw in the edge of the tyre and put a new back box on the daughters 107. Have a screw in my new rears :(( TRW are very good and seem to be thicker than the cheaper versions. Fit quality and they should last...

Front Drop Link Replacement
Will be doing mine imminently as the nsf is starting to knock, any tips or things to look out for or is it a straightforward job, guess the best bet are the Febi/Bilstein or Lemforder parts or is the TRW stuff ok?

Really need the codes from a diagnostic tool, ideally a VAG specific one like VAGCOM or one of the higher end service tools a lot of garages have, a cheap generic one should steer you in the right direction though. To determine if it's the actuator diaphragm you can pull the pipe off the Boost Contr...

I've got a Parrot hands free in my B6, takes up to a minute to auto connect but if I connect manually via my phone it's immediate, that's with 3 different Samsungs.

Just take one of your normal wheels off and see if it fits in the wheel well, could be an expensive door stop if it doesn't fit.

I'd go aygo, 107 or c1 thing, cheap to run tax and insure. Bit flimsy compared to vw/audi but don't really go wrong! £20 tax and 45+ mpg is a winner for me Agree, got a 1 owner, full history, 2009 107 with 72k on it for my daughter, they're all the same car, Toyota 1 litre 3 cylinder engine and cha...

Re: Alarm going off all the time
As above, mine was the alarm siren, as soon as you locked the door by key or remote the alarm went off, I just removed the siren bit, seemed to fix the problem, I think the siren unit has a rechargeable battery in it, it could be related to the battery beginning to fail. Does seem strange that yours...

Re: BKP 2l TDI Turbo
With reference to the oil pump, early B6 engines had a design flaw where the hex key that drives the oil pump would round off, the only sure fire way of fixing that is with a re engineered balance shaft assembly from the likes of KMB, it's rare for them to get to your kind of mileage without failin...

Re: BKP 2l TDI Turbo
Hi, where abouts down south are you, I'm aware of one place in Sussex that rebuilds turbos, it's called Turbo Works near Eastbourne. Is it that the variable veins aren't moving due to a failed actuator, I know on the later CBAB engines the actuator is replaceable separately from the turbo. With refe...

Not sure about Oz but plenty of second hand vents available on eBay in the UK, my centre ones are broken as well, I put it down to people trying to adjust the vents with clip on phone holders fitted.

Re: handbrake
How did you move it in the end? If the caliper is stuck on it usually requires the motor removing from the caliper.
I'm assuming you don't just mean it wouldn't release automatically and you had to push the button?

Ignition Switch Removal
Just wondering what's involved in removing the ignition switch on a 2010 Passat, mine has developed an annoying rattle that goes away if you press on the switch surround. Is it straight forward and is there anything to be careful of when removing it?
Cheers

Re: Ugh.... servicing.
Just a quick tip, when undoing the oil filter housing with a strap or chain wrench, watch the dipstick tube, if you catch it they can snap as they go a bit brittle with age, it's not difficult to change, just an inconvenience as you can't finish the job till you've got a new one.

Works on hydraulic pressure rather than the hand brake.

Auto hold doesn't use the hand brake motors so it's not those,
