Have you checked all the earth/ground connections. Battery ones, engine, and body.
As if there is a bad earth it could be draining the battery and drawing too much current.

Just paid for the Passat vr6 exclusive rear lights which mine needs.
And at a great price concidering what they sell for on German eBay

I have one from an Audi 80 which fitted my old b4 I'll see if i can find if you like.

I changed my drivers side tie rod end and got a wheel balanced. Then washed and dried it.

Why did you not take it to the bloke that painted your B5 in the first place? Because he's moved and his booth isn't ready for painting so all he can do at the moment is prep. Nah he won't do that. Especially after I told him how I want if he breaks it beyond repair It's been painted today. And I sent him some reflection shots of my old b5 that got painted to show him what I expect when I pic it up. Tried to make the message nice without offending him (since he's a mate) ...

Just to see what the paint is like before I decide on who paints the whole car later on.

I had one I got off of eBay which I just sold.
That was recommended by a member in here about £30 from Germany. On English ebay

Now fitted and drives straight again.
Just got to get it re tracked and jobs a good en.

After find out that the vr6 b4 has different tie rod ends to all other models of Passat. I now have found some and ordered them.
Should have them next week

The mk3 golf have the same ones as all other models but for what ever reason VW changed them for the vr b4
