Re: brake fluid leak
On an A4 I used to have the slave cylinder was leaking, it was leaking into the rubber bellow, the only sign was the car would start to creep forward if you had the car in first at a junction with the clutch pressed. Pull the rubber bellow back.

Re: DOT 5.1 mixable with DOT 4 ?
Okay, I will make an exception and I will reply. 1, I NEVER recommended anyone else to use silicon. 2, I don't need to give a reason to you, I don't answer to you, no matter how important you think you are. 3, How many hours did you waste searching, don't answer because I don't really care. 4, Four ...

Re: DOT 5.1 mixable with DOT 4 ?
But why do it? Of all the things to do on a car, why fill up the safety critical braking system with a fluid that it wasn't designed for and which we are warned against using? It makes no sense at all. Pros for silicon DOT 5 1, Won't attack paintwork if spilt. 2, Does not absorb water so doesn't ne...

Re: DOT 5.1 mixable with DOT 4 ?
No, The braking system is designed to use glycol based fluids due to its lubricity which is specificually required for braking systems that incorporate an ABS pump. Silicon fluids do not have the same lubricating properties and could give rise to a short lived ABS pump. Mixing, even the slightest r...

Re: DOT 5.1 mixable with DOT 4 ?
Experience versus opinion? I know which one I'd choose every time. Yeh. Everything I've ever read says NOT to mix the two and or use silicon fluid in system designed for glycol fluid. It is like using gearbox oil in your engine, I wouldn't do that either. Gearbox oil is solely for lubricating gears...

Re: DOT 5.1 mixable with DOT 4 ?
Going against excepted wisdom and practice is a brave thing to do. Doing it on my brakes is not something I'd take that risk on. But fair play. I neither recommended or asked you to use DOT 5.1 silicon brake fluid in your car. I only pointed out the fact that I had used it and didn't suffer any pro...

Re: DOT 5.1 mixable with DOT 4 ?
Yes. DOT4 and 5.1 are compatible DOT 5 is a completely different silicon based fluid and will ruin the system seals. DOT 5, Umm, no it won't, I changed to silicon on my Passat years ago and the brakes still work fine :-bd If you say so :-? I remember when DOT 5.1 came out, there was massive confusi...

Re: MAF implausible 16485 ( not the MAF )
Have a look at the connections at the MAF, seems to be okay for a few days when the connection has been broken and remade, look for broken/breaking wires and corrosion on the connecting pins, also check connections at the ECU.

Re: Clutch cost
Such a stupid idea putting a DMF on a petrol engined car, there's no need for it. How many decades did cars have solid flywheels with zero problems? All they've done is move the springs from the friction plate to the flywheel, I know it's a little more technical than that but in it's simplest terms...

I would've liked to buy Conti's or similar brand but price was a big issue for me now that I have a Quattro, meaning I had to change all four close to Xmas  I used to like Hankook but they wear pretty quick, went with Nexen N8000 and they're well made, only one tyre had a red dot on it (heavy ...

Moulding mistake more like :) Don't you think that the EU tyre labels are pointless? Rolling resistance, okay, when's the last time you had a journey where the entire road surface was the same material, it's the same with wet grip and road noise, these are more dependant on the surface your driving...

Sounds like the piston had come out too far and you've damaged the seal when putting it back together, any sign of a leak?

I put coppa slip in the suspension leg holes, on the bolt, fitted the pinch bolt, then filled the two grooves the pinch bolt passes through, years later it came out so easily. I don't see how it could possibly backfire? Nothing wrong with "Old School"

Re: Ebay magic...
Its very much like requiring window glass. If you have a front windscreen it is mandatory to have a heater/blower to desist. And the windscreen must be free from cracks over a certain size. But on the other hand. If you don't have a windscreen. A blower/heater is not required and can still pass a M...
