Number plate lights are getting picked up a lot now. VAG seem to be susceptible to water ingress and poor connection. My A4 has a new light assembly fitted by previous owner. Well done that man. Nothing better than sorting an ongoing niggle. My mother in law has my old Passat, the head gasket has gone so I'll have to resurrect it, not bad at over 190,000 miles. Re: Running temperature from Climate control
I have a 98 Passat with the 1.8T AEB engine. I want to check the coolant temperature, which is channel 45, but my display only goes to 44 before returning to 0. Any ideas? Is it a different channels or maybe just not available? B5 model is a different number from B 5.5, you should find the correct ...

Renegaderacer - B5.5 1.8T Sport Estate
You'd have an orgasm if you saw over 60mpg . Nah, I can't stand diesels. Highest ever on the Passat was 48, granted there was a lot of coasting but it was at normal traffic speeds and going with the flow. The photo below is from my journey to work this morning, just turned to 150,000 miles as well ...

Re: Renegaderacer - B5.5 1.8T Sport Estate
Bullet proof 1.8T ?? Only thing that is common as far as I know is either coil packs potentially, thermostats or the pick up pipe.... all cheap, well unless the pickup pipe gets blocked then its goosed.... mines standard, on 150k and runs smooth as anything. can get 41.6mpg on a run without cruise ...

Oil change and new arb drop links http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v302/caprixpack/DSC_0745_zpsa19juyzr.jpg That's the new oil bottle, it's now Fuch's oil, the older one was Castrol oil. The anti roll bar drop links can be reused if you fit poly bushes in them a useful upgrade. Wonder how many peo...

Re: B5 1.8t vag com readings
You don't have to totally remove the inlet, take the nuts off and pull it back from the head so the debris can't get into the head, just hoover the inlet out once you've removed them.camturbo wrote:Oh right seems a right ball ache to do am beginning to loose interest in the car

Still work in progress throttle body is clean and realigned with ignition on and wait til sound stops from the alignment. No vac leaks but haven't checked injectors or seals yet although it does look a touch moist where they sit so maybe that's my issue. Is it a easy job and if that is the case whe...

Re: Good advice needed. engine seized whilst at garage
The low oil pressure warning is something of an anomaly, this warning will pop up after repeated attempts to start but has nothing to do with oil pressure at all.
Glad to hear that's all that was wrong with your car

Re: Are B6 Passats really that bad?
A few reporting snapped springs, I would disagree that it's a Vw problem, I'd say it's the condition of the so called roads these days and the number of speed bumps everywhere (whoever thought of them?) Garages love speed bumps as they guarantee regular suspension work.

Injector o rings leaking or the injector seats leaking can cause a surge type idle, as can any PCV leaks.

B5 1.8t hesitation at 3000 revs
Thanks for your replies chaps it's all fixed now, well need another part but temporary fixed it. Went to do my airfiilter and there is a thin black metal pipe that is clipped to the airbox so you have to undo it near intake pipe to get better access. As I moved it out of way noticed the other end wh...

You push the wire release towards the injector and lift up slightly, there is a plastic part that links it to the next injector but it will stay connected okay.

Turns out to be the ECU plug gave it a wiggle and it's been ok since. Will take apart for a clean and some AFC 50 when I get a chance.

Re: B5 1.8t hesitation at 3000 revs
Any ideas I would test the coil read somewhere you can take them off with engine running to see which one is failing but don't want a electric shock If the coil does fail you can find out which one it is by disconnecting the fuel injectors one at a time, when the engine running doesn't change, that...
