It is weird, but it is a good thing. The number of cars you see with no main brake lights and only a high level light.

Re: Strange boot unlocking\locking on B5.5 Estate

Hello chaps, As per the title, I'm having slight trouble with the boot unlocking and locking on my B5.5 Estate. The handle no longer opens the boot and when I use my remote to lock or unlock the car the boot pops open. Currently I have to use the key to open the boot and have unplugged the solonoid...

Re: Why didn't my alarm go off?

From experience if one of the door modules is iffy, this can cause the lack of beep when you lock the car. SO your alarm doesnt set.

With a selected door open, lock the car, then close the door. If the beep sounds, you know that module is ok. Move onto the next door.

Windscreen replacement

Hi all,

Anyone had a windscreen replaced when youve had auto wipers, with the sensor on the windscreen. Any issues when getting a new windscreen fitted?

Cheers

Assuming theres no more leaks to wet the carpet, try a carpet cleaner with some detergent in it.

Re: Damp smell after water leak

When you say youve dried it out, what do you mean? The carpet has a thick layer of sound deadening. The carpet itself can feel dry, but if you were to lift the carpet it could be sodden. If you havent pulled the carpet back, its worth doing to check.

Re: rubbing sound on front discs/Dont do what I did

 Dont laugh...Bought some aftermarket front brake calipers, ate copies, very good and I am pleased with them. Problem was I gave the caliper spring a tweak to tighten it a little to stop pad rattle....this pulled the caliper closer to the disc, and caused the disc to rub the inside of the calip...

Re: Front brake pads uneven wear/ Vibration at speed

Could this be multiple issues in one? vibration at high speed could be inbalanced wheel and/or DMF. Brakign vibration could be sticking caliper or sliders not working as they should (as above), if a caliper is siezed on slightly, it could warp the disc, which causes vibration when braking. Ive had a...

Another vouch for the privacy shades, expensive but worth it imo.

Also to add,you can have the window down and still benefit from the shades.

**Final update** - forgot to mention that I cut my finger whilst working through that large grommeted hole above the window dowell access. First time I've been cut by aluminium I think. For interest's sake, and after fitting my new "chinese" £14 lock, I decided to take the old one apart a...

The MPPS cable can recover a bricked ECU, as opposed to the Guiletta cable does not.

I priced new genuine ones up and they were 160 quid from VW. Ended up buying cheap but new ones off ebay. They seem good quality and work... for how long ill let you know, but was worth a punt for me as i plan on getting rid of the car in the next couple of years.

Hi all, A quick question if i may, I've had my 2008/9 Passat sport 170BH since 2009. Sadly I had a NSF crash a few weeks back and the insurance inform me the superficial damage might be worth more than the car is worth. The annoying thing is, The engine itself has only just done over 1500 miles. VW...

Most likely a duff sensor and now the whole system is disabled. But youll have to get the car scanned to tell you for certain and also which sensor is the one that needs replacing.
