Re: hesitation problem solved.

On the petrol models it's just above the rear trailing arm setup. There is a small plastic cover which you need to remove to get to it, it's pretty easy to do just make sure you have some clamps for the fuel hoses either end of the filter.

Re: hesitation problem solved.

Had a similar problem with mine, MAF sensor got clogged up and after a clean it still wasn't running too well. Treated it to a new fuel filter and it ran fine, it was still running on the original so no wonder it was running badly.

Not sure what I'm going to do with it yet but whatever it is I'm not looking forward to it.

Re: Water in Drivers rear and front foot rest

I tried sealing mine with silicone sealant and my advice is to not bother, it didn't work. Don't have the part number but a quick visit to VW and they'll find it on their system without any problems, I don't remember it being an expensive part but it was a few years ago I changed mine so my memory i...

Re: Water in Drivers rear and front foot rest

If you can push it down into the bodywork then it's not seated properly. It should be held nice and firmly on the groove at the base of the grommet. When sealed properly the water should drain out of two holes in the plenum chamber, one under the brake server and one under the battery, both of which...

Re: Water in Drivers rear and front foot rest

Yup that's the grommet, You should be able to pull it upwards edge at a time to get the groove to seat on the bodywork, bit of a fiddly job but not too hard. Might be worth disconnecting the cable whilst you do it to give you a bit more movement.

Re: HELP IDLE CONTROL VALVE

Same engine as me and bobman. Take a look at this thread he created about removing and cleaning the throttle body. I did it the lazy way and ran the engine whilst spraying carb cleaner into the throttle body, this did however flag up a few errors on the ECU due to being run with a couple of connecto...

Re: Water in Drivers rear and front foot rest

The throttle cable grommet should be easy to see. If you are standing at the front of the car look at the side of the bonnet to your left, following the rubber lining across the wing is the throttle cable which goes back down into the plenum chamber and then into the car. This should be seated into ...

I hardly ever see black smoke coming from mine, could be that I often give it a bit of welly as it helps clear out all the rubbish from the system.

Didn't notice it was dead until I had it off and in pieces, the sides of the joint casing were pitted on both sides.

Re: New wheels again....

Ah one of my favourite wheel styles. I have a soft spot for race inspired wheels and these are some of the best and Compomotives don't suit Passats.

Look forward to seeing these on and good work on finding a genuine set.

Re: throttle body clean

Had a go at removing the throttle body on mine and gave up as the bolts were in such an awkward place and couldn't see where half the pipes joined onto it. You're a more determined man than I, I just sprayed some carb cleaner in mine and shifted some of the rubbish that had built up around the butte...

Re: Clicky CV Joint...

My B5 was only clicking on full lock when going to the right but after dismantling the CV joints it turned out that both were damaged. Had to pull them both off as the one I thought was ok needed a new boot but turned out to be just as bad as the previous one.

Re: Water in Drivers rear and front foot rest

If the water is only in the drivers side you can rule out the pollen filter. I had a massive amount of water under the drivers side carpet in mine and it couldn't spread over to the passenger side so you are looking for something on one side of the car. I wouldn't bother taking it to the dealers, I ...

Well all the belts need changing as they're all about 8 years old and I don't trust a timing belt at that age.

Re: Continuation of the Porsche 944

Got fed up today with the lack of a working fuel pump and the lack of funds that would allow a fresh new one so I decided to crack the dead one open and see if I could revive it. I figured that even if I couldn't fix it then it would at least be interesting to see the insides. Turned out that a bit ...

Re: fed up with the passat

I much prefer working on a car when it's not needed. When I got the B6 I did all the jobs I'd been wanting to do on the B5 for ages including stripping out the carpets, repairing wiring and redoing various seals. Those jobs had been waiting for about a year to be done but since I was using the car e...

Seen these on a Cayman S (and of course a 997 turbo) and they look great but I think they look terrible on the two cars posted above.

That's just me though.

I know how you feel. I've put plenty of effort into trying to get my 944 running again and I'm still no closer to having the engine fire up, grr! Had the same with the B5 before it when I seemed to be replacing parts just for another to need replacing afterwards. Eventually you catch up with it and ...

Re: Work cut out? (Interior)

I had an old XR3i and the previous owner smoked like a train. I'd completely given up cleaning the headlining until I was ready to sell it and tried Autoglym interior shampoo which removed it with pretty much no effort. I've also used almost 2 bottles of the stuff on the inside of the 944 trying to ...
