Re: Advice Needed on Park Brake/Auto Hold

Just spoken to VW and they've fitted a new hand brake control unit, god knows what happened with the old one.

Shall see how it behaves when I go to pick it up.

Re: Advice Needed on Park Brake/Auto Hold

Awesome - sounds like a fault I'll get to experience in a few years time. With any luck yours is new enough to have these teething problems sorted, I was hoping mine would've been also considering it's on an 08 plate and this shape Passat has been around since 2005. Heard back from VW today and the...

Re: Advice Needed on Park Brake/Auto Hold

My dashboard is now coming up showing 'Parking brake fault'. Before that it would refusing to pull away without throttle input even though the engine is more than capable of doing so it just refused to let go.

Got it booked into VW tomorrow to get it scanned and see what's going on.

Re: Help needed please

Sounds like vag-com is your best bet. I assume yours refuses to start unless you have your foot on the brake and the car in P. I've only ever driven one auto VW and that was a DSG.

Could be that the car isn't getting the signal that you have done the above and refusing to start?

Re: Passat induction

I have one of these. My tip is to fit the kit with the top of the airbox out of the car otherwise I found it was far too easy to get a bad seal and ended up with my MAF sensor coated in a thick layer of rubbish.

Even my 1.8 n/a sounded like a V6 with it fitted, the sound can be a bit intoxicating.

That will only work for a local IP. To get a new IP normally you will need to disconnect from the internet and connect again, if using a router just unplug it and plug it back in. If that fails your ISP has issued you with a static IP.

Would depend on which Porsche brakes you're fitting really, there are a surprising amount of them out there. Sadly I don't know anything about fitting them to a VW though.

Re: Few issues need sorting on tight budget!!!

I'm a wee bit worse for wear due to the wonders of what can only be referred to as beer but here is what I have to add. Is the leak coming in from the inner part of the door (i.e when the door is shut does the water still come in between the door and the aluminuim part of the door)? that is where mo...

Re: gearbox oil change quick question

Not looked into a change on these cars but I'll share a tip given to me regarding a 944 gearbox oil change. There should be two plugs, one for draining and a second for filling. Make sure you can undo the one for filling before removing the drain plug or you'll be stuck.

Re: And the winner of most stupid question goes to

If that's what the manufacturer says then they're the best to use especially if you're on OE wheels and tyres. Remember these are rather heavy cars so the pressures are likely to be a bit higher than expected. My B6 sport is still on Pirelli P-zero extra load tyres due to the weight of the thing the...

Re: How do you replace the gear gaitor on a 2003 B5.5 Passat?

Looks like there is a clamp holding it on, same style used on fuel lines.

Cut it off and then you should be able to remove it. Mine was replaced by an aftermarket job before I got it so can't help further than that, sorry.

Re: Can anyone tell me what is up with my rear door handle?

If you open the door you should find a hole under the rubber seal which has a torx screw inside. Slacken this screw all the way and it will release the plastic part next to the handle. When that is out see if the handle will sit flush. You can unlclip the cable from the handle and then give it a pok...

VW are always worth giving a go for parts as sometimes they turn out cheaper than the other options or at least very competitive.

Re: Where can I buy......

You could try euro car parts but don't know if you'll have any luck.

How much are they from the dealers? I'd recommend getting some new bolts to hold them in as I've had one shear on me before and it's not fun getting them removed.

Well just driving it back from the garage it had been left in was almost an hours drive and then I just kind of carried on driving for an extra 60 miles (could say I missed a petrol engine). I think the alarm just took offence to the bonnet being open, did a similar thing to it the other week when t...

When I was looking at the wiring on mine I found that any joint where the tape was easy to remove had corroded wires under it, any tape that was hard to remove was fine. Might save you a lot of bother.

Cleaning my washer jets didn't quite go to plan

So tonight I decided I'd have a go at cleaning out my washer jets seeing as they're supposed to be fan type jets but just sprayed water in random directions. Removed the jets and went into my flat to pop them into a pot of bleach to clear out any rubbish and left the bonnet of the car open (with it ...

I've heard of coins going down the back of these draws so I don't put any in there, infact I'm too afraid to put anything in there incase it falls down so I don't see the point in them. If you have a word with the parts department at VW they might tell you how to do it, depends how friendly they are...

Take a look at the throttle body, it may benefit from a good clean out.

In the how-to section bobman has written a guide on doing this on our engines.
