Re: Alarm/tailgate problem

The leak issue is not uncommon however my car seems dry and when the tailgate registers closed everything works fine. Having said that i havent looked inside/behind the trim yet.

Re: Alarm/tailgate problem

Thanks and that does make sense, i was being a bit naive to think an alarm could be easily de-activated! With your experience i still suspect it is linked to the new lock actuator fitted last year. The tailgate is used a lot (we have adog) and my wife doesnt understand the concept of closing when a ...

Re: DRL PROBLEM

That occured to me too but would that still show as a bulb fail? I will get my continuity tester out tomorrow and check just in case. Was a bit cold and damp when i was fitting new bulb so didnt have the conditions to check everything.

DRL PROBLEM

One of the DRL bulbs stopped working accompanied by a bulb fail message. Changed bulb, still not working..... any clues? I suppose i might just have been unlucky and bought a dud bulb but is there anything else which might be the cause?

Re: Passat B7 ESTATE can't open the boot

Had i not been abroad at the time and needing access for the dog i would have gone down the eBay/DIY repair route on return. Final cost was €95 so under £90, the labour cost is covered by my holiday travel insurance and the parts also covered with VW warranty.

Re: Passat B7 ESTATE can't open the boot

Realised i can still close the tailgate. However booked car into a VW dealer near where we are currently staying, (Plonersee). Quoted about €120 for parts/labour some of the cost of which is covered on my holiday insurance. Saves the hassle and isnt as eye wateringly expensive as feared.

Re: Grey trim restoring/ cleaning

Will do when I have worked out how to attach/upload a photo! As a supplementary question can anyone recommend a good clay bar and kit for a relative beginner? I have all the Autoglym cleaners, polishes and waxes I need (and probably some I don’t) and a polishing machine I am ok with using, just need...

Grey trim restoring/ cleaning

The grey plastic external trim on my B7 Allroad from the recent scratch someone kindly applied in a car park appears to be painted rather than through coloured (unless anyone knows different). What products are recommended to clean/restore/protect the finish?

Re: Tyre advice for Alltrack

I do not want really to increase tyre footprint (doesn’t need it) and rolling resistance. If anything I want to reduce tyre costs and am as another option looking at getting 17” wheels and flogging the 18’s.

Re: Tyre advice for Alltrack

7.5J rims. Yes I should have said I probably need 98 load rated tyres. The car tows well, hAve towed a twin axle 1600kg Caravan around 6500 miles in past 2 years including trips to Austria and Pyrenees. I drive about 20,000 miles a year.

HOw to disable shuffle when playing iTunes through car?

When I connect via Bluetooth into my iPhone to play music it is always on shuffle across my entire music library. Any idea how to disable so I can listen to a full album or playlist? Car is B7 with factory satnav.

Tyre advice for Alltrack

The standard tyres are 225/45x18’s however I know 215/55x18 will in theory work. The advantage is their availability in XL spec and general classification as SUV tyres, which in a way the Alltrack is an SUV. I need XL for towing a big heavy Caravan as I find my current standard car tyres a bit bounc...

What is the best value mitt to buy? I am not into show standard detailing, just a thorough wash now and again and so I can check the car over in between using the local hand car wash.

If I need to replace the mirrors it won’t be happening but don’t understand why I do not have the corner turn Light function, I thought that was standard on the Alltrack.....
