Re: Passat B6 2.0 TDI Sport (140PS) inlet manifold/turbo problem
My turbo was toast - unknown to me it had run overspeed with the previous owner and it started to give me the common overboost/limp mode issues under mild acceleration on the motorway. I tried the usual Youtube tricks like Mr Muscle / Innotec / Forte turbo cleaner but nothing really helped. I discov...

Re: vcds
I would only ever buy VCDS from a genuine reseller, such as Gendan. They supplied my Micro CAN version, but I see that's now been superseded by the link you posted. Basic/generic code readers won't help you with the B6, so VCDS is definitely recommended and will pay for itself if you take into accou...

Re: Weird noise from engine bay
I'm sure it's just a case of removing the fan shroud (4 Torx bolts and the electrical plug at the bottom), then the radiator (4 bolts and the quick release coolant couplings) and then you should have access to the intercooler. I drop the fan shroud out from underneath, then lift out the radiator upw...

Important to sort otherwise the turbo will run overspeed.

Re: Rear Suspension issues
I did this job exactly a year ago, also dropping the subframe to cut out the upper eccentric bolts (with an angle grinder) as there was no way I could access them while on the car. I replaced with OEM spec (Lemforder) control arms and bushes, new eccentric bolts and new lock nuts all around. I also ...

Re: A/C bowden cable orientation
I found this really difficult. Before replacing the Climatic panel, I aligned the cable by rotating it slowly - going through all four positions until completely happy on a known position (e.g. Windscreen). Then align the knob on the panel to that setting, and as you replace the panel it is possible...

TiA to anyone who can tell me where the ECU is located, cars on my drive badly need it on the road and Moted I recently fitted Autohold to my SE, using this guide http://www.r-e-n-z.de/cms_neu/index.php?page=189 with Google translate. It shows you the location of the EPB module - under the centre c...

Re: HOT start problems
My early BKP also had a hot start problem - changing both coolant temp sensors (one in thermostat housing, the other on engine LHS) made a huge difference. Obviously did thermostat at the same time, all were original parts and had lasted 12 years / 160k.

Re: How to fit new radiator
If access is the same as my 2.0 TDI (BKP) then there is no need to remove the bumper. You do need access from underneath, so jack up front and secure on axle stands. Remove engine undertray. Disconnect fan cable plug (under fan shroud), and unbolt fan shroud (4 Torx bolts) which can then be removed ...

Yes, I'll check again in daylight. I'm pretty sure the underlying bodywork is ok. Passenger door handle has gone but the mirror is untouched, I'll post a pic tomorrow.
Insurance company have all the details now, I said I'll arrange repairs myself but I still have the option to claim if necessary.

Re: Pranged it! Door advice appreciated...
In case I end up on a couple of road trips to collect replacement doors, I'm trying to assess whether they would actually fit inside a saloon for the journey home. With the tape measure it looks like a rear door will fit inside the boot aperture, but the fronts are definitely too wide and I'd have t...

Re: Fix for door keep open bar?
I'm guessing you would just have to change the door hinge with a part like this one: http://r.ebay.com/DYhMbZ. You should be able to find a colour matched one second hand.

Re: Pranged it! Door advice appreciated...
Pretty sure they're different rear doors on saloon and estate. The part numbers are different. Fronts definitely the same as part numbers are identical. Thanks - I thought that was the case. I've just looked at some pics and it's obvious now. It looks like doors could be had for around £50 each if ...

I had a slight 'coming together' with another car on my inside on a dual carriageway today. It would be judged as my fault because I was taking avoiding action from stopped cars ahead. :(( Fortunately the damage is limited to both nearside doors, paintwork is surprisingly intact but door panels are ...

Re: A/C woes/cabin temp sensor
What age is the car? Early B6s had a poorly-designed G263 evaporator outlet temp sensor (located just inside the panel by the driver's left foot on a RHD car). This causes the a/c system to ice up and stop working after about 20 mins. Back in the day there was a voluntary recall to replace the senso...

Re: Fuse box piggyback - where's the earth?
I used to power my phone from the drivers side fuse panel - for the earth I soldered the wire to a washer and mounted it on one of the studs holding the dash that you can see inside the fuse box. (BTW there is a passenger side fuse panel, just the same as the drivers side - check the end of the dash...

Re: Newbie with stereo concerns.
Surely there must be a connector/adapter out there somewhere for cars that don't need the steering wheel function, that sorts the can bus issue without costing 40 quid? As per Twincam's post, you'll just have to run a separate live feed from either the RHS fusebox or the front lighter socket. With ...

Re: Newbie with stereo concerns.
Thanks for that, I don't have the steering wheel controls, so that seems a bit excessive, however i've looked at their eBay store and they have this more basic adapter which looks like it might work, any thoughts? Re: Newbie with stereo concerns.
For my Pioneer head unit I use a Dynamic Sounds DS-VW002 adapter like this one: http://r.ebay.com/5rgYOL. It supports a multifunction steering wheel if you have one, but it still works fine if you don't.

Re: Hesitation/misfire 140 BHP 2.0 TDi BKP Passat
You don't say how you scanned the car, the recommendation would be to use VCDS (www.ross-tech.com) which offers an equivalent level of scan that could otherwise only be done in a dealer. If you post your location then someone nearby might be able to help. The other benefit of VCDS is that you can lo...

Re: Manual Gearbox Oil Change - First Timer Experience
Did mine last year, well worth it. If the car is perfectly level then you can fill the gearbox until it starts dripping out of the inlet - that should be the correct quantity. In practice it's hard to do, so I drained it on a very slight downslope and then raised the front up to fill with 2.3L as sp...

Re: Separating wishbone from ball joint
Tried with a hammer again today. I can see the control arm is free at the inner end of the three balljoint studs, but still stuck firm on the outer two studs. I don't have a decent blowtorch so I'll leave it for now. When I get around to replacing the balljoint I'll look to separate the balljoint an...

Re: Separating wishbone from ball joint
Really struggling with this at the moment - the offside control arm is firmly 'welded' to the balljoint. Resorted to loosening the 3 nuts one turn and then taking the car around the block to try and break this joint, but it's not moving at all. Have tried leverage / cold chisel in the gap but don't ...
