Going too big can look worse than going too small imo, 17s are the limit on a Passat as 18s and 19s raise the car and make it look chavvy.
I'm happy with my 16s,I think they offer the best compromise between looks and ride.

Re: gamma head unit stopped working
Throw it in the bin and get a proper Jap headunit, my crappy Gamma broke too, wasn;t bothered though as the sound quality was poor and it was as old as the hills, aftermarket units they slot straight in after you've swapped the lives and popped an aerial adaptor in.

Re: Terrible plastics...
Unfortunately its not normally the materials used but the people who work on them over the years, even the best fixing holes will struggle to put up with ham fisted people who try to force things or over tighten them :) No "ham fisted" people involved I'm afraid, just poor quality plastic...

Re: Terrible plastics...
The dash had never been off before as far as I could tell and the plastic was literally crumbling like cheese when I had bits of it in my hands, really poor.

Terrible plastics...
I've just finished trying to "bodge" my glovebox back into the dash after nearly every screw mounting hole literally dropped to pieces after I unscrewed them, it seems the plastic that the dash is made of is deteriorating and literally crumbling to pieces!! The same thing happened when I t...

Re: Tuning 1.8T
I'm in the same boat as you mate, I want a bit more power outa my 1.8t but can't afford shed loads of cash on a car that is only worth a grand!!
I'm thinking TD04-15 turbo, free flow filter, exhaust and a remap. Hoping for 250-260bhp ultimately...

Strange whining...
Hi folks, on my 2001 1,8T I've got a strange noise coming from the engine, I've heard it before on other VWs in the past but it's getting on my nerves a bit. It's a noise similar to a worn out power steering pump but I don't think the PAS pump is at fault as the tone of the noise doesn't change when...

Re: Ouch!!!!
Yeah, cause having your Oil and filters changed in the most expensive way possible is going the stop any design/manufacturing flaws in a seat heating system!!! FFS!kirade wrote:great news, dealers do have a thing about full service history when things go wrong, keep us updated

Oh thanks for that guys, I'll certainly check that out. Yeah the car is sluggish as hell around the doors, power only coming on tap like I say at 3.5-4k revs, pta to be honest!!!

Re: Remap? Any ideas?
Thanks for that guys, I'll thin about an exhaust first as mine is looking like it may be getting tired. I'll try that place in Ashington, then throw it in for a remap!!
Cheers again!

Remap? Any ideas?
Hi folks, Recently bought a lovely 2001 B5.5 1.8t with 150bhp and 137k miles (FSH). Apart from a very jerky throttle response (separate issue) I think this car needs a touch more overtaking power a little lower down the rev range as boost doesn't properly come in till 4k revs. Will a remap address t...
