Re: A356 TGT found dead

Incredible, hard to believe. Did they also get the engine back?! After all, there is some more damage then just the roof: Bonnet missing, engine ripped out (I cannot believe they did not simply cut hoses and wires), right left wing dented etc. - the owner will habe to look into quite a few things, a...

Re: Santana Owners?

What a pity with the loss of the blue LX and congratulations on the next one! Would that be Gambia red underneath the dirt? If it is the early LX interior, then it must be an `83 model, regardless of possibly first registration in `84. Rear headrests did not come as a standard, to my best knowledge ...

Re: passat B2 hatchback seatbelts

No, today you will find hardly anything on scrapyards anymore, the B2 is too rare to pop up there more than occasionally. In Germany, there is a larger number of B2s still on the road, ranging from the beat-down everyday driver over the well-kept pensioner's car to the top-condition piece of collect...

Re: passat B2 hatchback seatbelts

I think the wheels - the form, not the condition - do the car justice in every way, they were factory-fitted and are absolutely the right type to go with car... - If you are in Belgium, it will be much easier to get parts, compared to the U.K., you shoudld have better sources and could even look int...

Re: passat B2 hatchback seatbelts

The belts on Ebay are static 3-point, and this will not help you since the B2 is not equipped to have seat belts attached in any other point than the rear backrest. There is simply no upper mounting point in the bodywork. The rear backrest should be readily equipped for mounting the reels - there ar...

Re: passat B2 hatchback seatbelts

You will need to swap the rear backrest(s), the reels are installed in the upper part. If it is an `82 CL, you will have zero to naught chance to get piece(s) matching (colour, cloth) with integrated belts. This is the configuration in the 3-point belts. Technically, it will also be possible to inst...

Re: Inherited a B1

Impossible to tell whether that picture was taken in 1979 or in 2016... - stunning.

Glad to hear about your plan to preserve the B1 in stock condition! It will be a pleasant sight, standing erect over the mass of lowered veedubs around it. Good to know it is off the road and out of the wet, too.

Re: Santana Owners?

Hi, the FOHA rear spoiler was the one with the edges angled down towards the rear lights - the difference to the factory-fitted Turbodiesel / Formel E spoiler. The GX5 in fact did not have any OEM rear spoiler, only the front one. - Might be simpler to fly to Shanghai to have a look at the long-whee...

Re: Central locking Help needed

Hi, if the bi-pressure pump is working, you can start checking for leaky areas directly near the pump: With your facelift model, there should be a T-crossing directly next to the pump: one tube coming from the pump, the other two leading to the 4 doors and the filler flap (a) and the other one to th...

Re: Central locking Help needed

Hi, fuse no. 7 is only with B2's up to 1982 m.y., it is fuse no. 3 with younger cars such as yours (3rd from left in bottom row). Since you only write "packed up" it is not possible to give any hints. Does the central locking not operate at all? Then, after the fuse, I would try to look at...

Re: Wondering what my 83' B2 was worth?

Of course, well-kept condition is most important... - and the number of people who are willing to pay more if a VW is stock condition and not "slammed" is said to be increasing as well.

Re: B1 and B2 engine codes

That's no engine code but the spare part number of the cylinder head. :D Your engine code will be YN (75hp) or YP (85HP), I guess - 1.6L. You can find the engine code on the passenger side of the engine block, embossed in an approx. 8x1 cm patch almost at the top. Take some fine sand paper to smooth...

Re: Inherited a B1

The really mean thing is that - contrary to the B2 - the B1 is developing a lot of "hidden" rust. With the B2, you can quite easilyy see what the rust is all about (except, possibly, around the right rear wheel housing where the filler neck is attached), but with the B1 you will have to lo...

Re: Inherited a B1

Hammerite is rather difficult, will be sealing off the metal: All water running behind it will stay there & rust silently, without being able to see the rust from outside. Better just go for full waxoyl treatment, regularly checked & refurbished later. Best thing is to never run the car in w...

Re: Inherited a B1

Great and extremely rare find, congratulations!

Be sure to change all fuel lines (fabric hoses) around the engine before ever starting it, or you might sort of honour your nick... - would be a pity for sure. This would not be the first Passat B1 or B2 to die from fire this way...

The breaker is a facelift model, part will not fit a pre-85. I am pretty sure the part was on German Ebay some weeks / months ago but was not sold, cannot find it now. Re: Santana Owners?

That should be biskay blue, I think. A beautiful and well kept car, with tasteful rims as well. Of course, proper tires would look better (instead of just rubber vapour on the rim), but this can be adjusted when seeing after the springs... Watch out to get the right springs, there are differences: 5...

Wow... - a Stretch Santana. Awesome, but obviously some horsing around with a write-off, it has no number plates. Could have been built for some People's Army officer's wedding or the like. I like the daily driver, although the body is obviously beyond repair. I do not like the look of the GLS5. Too...
