Re: b2 headlights
Do I have a sort of déja vu? I could swear I posted some details yesterday, but they seem to have been erased... - unfortunately without any nearer explanation?! Generally, there are two possibilities: - VW Heritage in the UK (official partner of Volkswagen Classic Parts Center in the U.K.) - Volks...

Very nice car, not lowered and not with untypically large rims - really like that style, please keep it up. Hope water and oil are really leaks and not a blown cylinder gasket...

Re: Latest Pictures of 87 Hatchback + Updates!
.... I may be wrong but didn't the GT have 175/60 R14 tyres as std ?? Err... - no, 195/60 R14 were standard with the GT. 175/60 R14 would be way too small, even the Golf Mk. 2's 185/60 R14 is too small for the Passat, the only thing equivalent to the original size would be 185/65 R14 (standard with...

Re: Latest Pictures of 87 Hatchback + Updates!
Really? I like the car better without the red stripe, that one was reserved for GTI models, and since the Passat was only available as a GT, there is not too much sense to it, I think. The car is rare enough, hardly a need for "more personality"... Almost all B2s were made in Emden, only a...

Ouch - I missed the "P-reg". Carl, of course this is a completely wrong section of the board for such a modern car. Crank sensor, no B1 or B2 needs that stuff...

Re: p reg ignition problem 2ltr petrol
Did you check all ignition wiring connections from coil to distributor and plugs for corrosion? They are somewhat tricky, I had this once with a 5cyl: the moment the RAC man arrived, I had already cleaned the corroded connections and the Santana fired up again...

Yes... - but the Santana was never intended to be cool.
This German automag makes that quite clear as far as I understand:

1 might try an online translator, I guess.

Re: Santana Owners?
I would not recommend the colour change. Of course silver is more expensive for the moment, but: a) nobody will see that the car was re-sprayed later unless you tell them, it will simply look like it always did and b) the money will only hurt for the moment, if you choose the right (i.e. original) c...

Re: Santana Owners?
as for the seat cloth, I was hoping someone might know what the material patern was called... it makes the search that little bit easier. OK, I see... - well, in the first Santana brochures (when there was just the GX5 in the U.K.), it was simply called "cloth upholstery, black". Later an...

Re: Santana Owners?
Did you simply try a Britain-wide car glass specialist, Autoglass or else? You might even be lucky and they still have a new windscreen in stock - or they at least can source a windscreen from there central store. Santana and Passat B2 share the same windscreen, so it is not that special. WIndscreen...

Re: b2 in pease pottage scrapyard
Rich, are you not looking for Santana fog lights? They are specific to the Santana, those of a Passat B2 will not fit: The Santana has its fog lights mounted under the bumper, the Passat next to the headlights near the grille. (Wings will fit, but you will have to tend some unnecessary holes from th...

Re: Sliding doors in the Passat b1?
With nearly 100% certainty the story behind this is a conversion for disabled people, being able to enter the car out of their wheelchair without assistance, and also to load in their own wheelchair by folding it outside the car and sliding it over their legs into the area of the passenger seat (rig...

Re: clutch cable return HELP!!
Check the lever where the clutch cable is attached to the gearbox. The lever is set to its axle in a defined degree and with gear teeth. When the gear teeth are worn out, the lever jumps (possibly in attaching the new cable?), the cable cannot move the clutch far enough anymore.

Re: PAS V NON PAS
Yes, this is true of course - starting in the 1984 model for the 5cyl and in the 1985 model for the 4cyl, they became different, too. It is still possible to install PAS in a non-PAS B2 without changing them, just like the rest of the front axle, as written above.

Re: PAS V NON PAS
You will also need the lower part of the pinion / steering shaft, just the rack will not be sufficient. Pump and hoses (length) are different between 4cyl and 5cyl., and for the pump you possibly need the proper mount, too - at least I remember one from my 4cyl diesel B2. Technically, the complete f...

Mine is a TGT plate. OK, so you got "Tina the 'Tana" now... - I remember your entries in the thread about her. Glad to hear she is still on the road, she might be one of the best GX5s still around in Britain... (I guess the blue one has been SORN for a long time and was not in the numbers...

Re: Santana Owners?
Sounds great, I got 2 GX5s myself, one `83 carb auto and one `84 injection manual, also both with central locking, power steering and windows. These items were standard for the UK spec. GX5s, so your car should have them as well as the UK standard fog lights. What colour is yours, inside and out? Do...

Re: Santana Owners?
All body parts up to the B-pillar are completely the same as any Passat, so this should not be too much of a problem. Pity the bonnet was hit, too - are front light and indicator OK, is the bumper alright including the fixture to the side of the wing? These are the really rare parts today. For an es...

Re: B2 wagon SYCNRO SWAP
Audi 4000 is the same as the Audi 80/90 in Europe. The Audi 80/90 Quattro has the same axles as the original Audi (Coupé) Quattro. (The rear axles of Audi 80/90 B2 and Santana / Passat B2 are completely different already in the FWD versions (Audi: Trailing axle with Panhard rod, Santana/Passat B2: ...

Re: B2 wagon SYCNRO SWAP
Will not fit, rear axle is different as written above. Audi Quattro has basically a reversed front axle as a rear one (minus steering), Passat Syncro is a completely different and unique solution.
