Upper row (but not the additional row on top), second from left should be the right one.

Re: Santana Owners?
No, the Nissan Santana is no example of CKD Completely Knocked Down production, the Japanese really produced the car, it was much more than a "simple" kit assembly. (But CKD was done with the Santana as well - in Lagos, Nigeria, from 1984 to 1990, first with kits coming from Wolfsburg, lat...

Re: Santana Owners?
@ zamp: What a pity, I really would have liked that one... - R.I.P., Santana! "JS" cannot be correct since your car was equipped with a catalyst, the "JS" had none (UK cars have the "JS" with, correct, 115 hp). 110hp is what Nissan and VW state about your engine. Yes, t...

Re: Santana Owners?
Wonderful... - this obviously was a 1984/1985 Santana Gi5 (110 hp), the "2nd" line for Japan, only surpassed by the "Xi5" top of the line model that was "full plush" with f.e. no leatherette sections on seats etc. The Gi5 was was quite similar to the our GX5, only diffe...

Right - that one is in Ireland now and looked not too good on the last pic I received... - let's hope it is better now.

Re: Santana Owners?
No, the car in the pic from golf1980 is not the one from around Bath, later sold to the Irish guy. That one was not lowered, and it is the wrong plate, anyway. As far as I know, the now Irish GX5E should be on the way to refurbishment, last news were it was going to the bodyshop (about one year ago).

Re: Santana Owners?
Great to read about the blue LX having been saved - and great pics! Yes, especially the last one... Also, I am surprised about the incredible find "up north" (now, where would that be? Historic poster in the background is too small... ) - great to see such a well conserved GX5E. The...

Yes, that would be great... - I think nobody here has any experience with a Japan-built B2, so sharing some pics & experience would be splendid.zamp wrote:I will dig out some pictures in remembrance

Thanks for the pics... - to be honest, I was thinking specifically about the U.K. Santana "meet" mentioned by Golf1980. But the Passats are nice, too.

Original suspension would be great as well: not that the first thing a prospective buyer needs to do is refit correct shocks for proper ride height...

How do you know the "bottom end" is gone? It is not just the oil pressure buzzer, right? Carb 5cyls are prone to false alarms there... - more details might be useful here. 5cyl gearboxes only match 5cyls, 4cyls are different. Since engine mounts and gearbox mounts are completely different ...

Great find, what a look - not slammed and with factory spec wheels, incredible! Looks like everything is still there, obviously nothing missing... - by the way, does a GL5 in '82 already have power windows?

Re: GL5 Headlight Washer Jets
The parts in the links are not the original B2 part but might work - no experience yet... The original part, which is not the "T", but rather an "L" shape directly attached to each jet unit (so you need two of them), is p/n 171 955 187. Since this is a Golf 1 part, it might be ab...

Re: Passat b2 1.6td breaking for spares
Sell the engine to the T3 guys and you will see some money after all... - this should really pay off, they are really after these "CY" TDs since the T3 tend to wear them out one by one.

Upholstery cloth hints it is (was) a C base model... - in 1984, that should be 1.6L / 75hp or 1.8L / 90hp.

Re: Santana Owners?
Looks great, and you even got two of the rare CX badges. Now you are just missing the GX and the LX5 badges to have have the European Santana line-up alltogether. Also the nice little difference of Quantum GL5 F.I. (pre-facelift) and the later badge without "F.I." - really neat...

Re: passat b2 new member
Great find, stratos blue and the 5pot - a classic. Hope she fires up on starting - the K-Jetronic does not like not running for months on end, and if there is anything wrong there, spares are rare to come by and quite expensive. Also hope there is not too much mould on the inside, pic shows enough o...

Re: B2 radiator
No, not necessary, brackets are the same. See that they really sell you a rad for the Passat B2, not for the Golf Mk. 2, they look very similar except for the direction of the hose connection which are easily mixed up in a photo or illustration. The Golf rad can be recognized with the angled (45°) ...

Re: B2 radiator
Rad can't be too big for a TD, they nearly always have cooling issues. Best choice for TD is 700mm, but 590mm will fit, too - others are too small. Most important thing is that 5cyl rads will not fit to 4cyls - and for the TD you also need one with an external reservoir (no filler in the rad), the l...
