Re: Hi there! B2 owner checking in
If i do happen to keep it then some proper way of lowering it is required as it has had the springs chopped by the previous owner and the stupidly big wheels rub. I think a set of G60 Golf wheels would look a treat with some subtle lowering. That´s a nice ride you got yourself there... - I happen ...

gx is that your motor in the photo? if so v.nice mate. Yes it is, thank you... :D the hum of the 5 is addictive but who did they get to do the suspension?? great for speed bumps but show it a corner at speed  Well, let´s turn it the other way round... - the Santana is almost 30 years old! That looks like an early carburetted one... - 1983, like my own lhasa green GX5.
And your´s has only 54.000mls... - "and lead us not into temptation"...
- what a pity, I just bought myself another GX 1.8 Automatic.

Re: question about B2 body trim (plastic rub strips)
woop out with the stanley blade in the next few days then :) Rather take a nylon thread instead of the stanley, the paint may be better off in the end. - Plaese take notice: In case the rubber trim is bent, it will be destroyed. There is a metal part in the inside that will become twisted in the pr...

Re: What size are standard steels on a B2?
HI, the 14" 6 snowflake alloys are called "Avus" by Volkswagen by the way and were, as lawsy pointed out correctly, standard equipment on U.K. specified GX5 models. (Even in Germany, f.e., they were optiona.) Tire size is 195/60 R 14, as lawsy pointed out correctly. Many Passat GL5 mo...

Re: Newbie in Ireland: LHD B1 2 door hatchback
Bonnet should fit, wings and doors (if the Audi is a 2-door ;) ) too. WIndscreen f.e. will not fit, though - the top corners are different. There may be some difference in the door locks and their fittings to the door - but that problem should not be too big for you, considering the task of taking t...

Re: Passat - santana - whats the difference???
so following this the doors are the same as the passat? Yes and no... - the doors of the Passat estate are identical to the Santana and the front doors in every case, but NOT the rear doors of the Passat fastback! They are not high enough in the rear section... - if you mounted them you would have ...

Re: Passat - santana - whats the difference???
Hi Lawsy, so you got that really nice GX5 off Ebay... - I really thought about bidding, but I simply do not have any more storage room, with 6+ Santanas it is slowly starting to become difficult. Please, think twice about lowering it. There are very few of these rare cars left in the good condition ...

We're planning on keeping the car totally standard and original, I have considered getting some tasteful but slightly "phatter" alloys, girlfriend won't let me though! Nice car & sensible girlfriend! (I am lucky to have both of these, too. ;) ) I should say "phat" is the exa...

Hi Ollie, congratulations on that nice car of "The Crooner´s", you caught a very rare beauty. I am really glad you are going to leave it in mint condition and are not going to "slam" it. Now, to your questions: - the rear arches: if you can´t get them in Britain, you should tak...

You´re right there mate... - 2 B2´s aint enough :D I got two Turbodiesels myself, not Passats, but Santanas, but they´re the same mechanically. What exactly do you need to know...? Your engine code is "CY". I think there is no "Haynes" available on the Turbodiesel; in the U.S....

Re: Project Coupe
You have the US-spec. "early" fuel injected 4cyl there. This engine was not sold in Europe but especially in America. The engine code is "WT", it´s 1715 ccm and 74 hp SAE, built only till the end of model year 1983 (Summer 1983). The "WT" engine should not be mixed up ...

Somebody must have mixed up things a bit there: The B2 shares the main headlights not with the Ur Quattro, but with the "short" Sport Quattro: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/3/3a/Sport_quattro1.jpg/250px-Sport_quattro1.jpg - Grandad´s assumption for the Scirocco´s li...

That´s quite a lot to do... - did you already have a look at the inner wheel housing on the right side, under the carpet? I guess there are more B2's in the UK than over here because I had never seen one till this one popped up in the classifieds. Oh, I would not bet on that. The British climate is much worse than large warm and dry parts of the USA, where some Quantums may have survived - especially California or the...

I fear that "messing" with old Volkswagens is in fact part of the Anglo-American way of dealing with potential Volkswagen vintage cars... - You just have to look at U.S. Beetles or at other older British Passats in this forum: Hardly any vintage car remains original or is restored to facto...

Re: vacuum pipe and economy light
What I do find annoying is the orange main beam light, why didn't they do them blue? The control lights were changed to LEDs with the introduction of the Passat Mk.2. Some customers complained about the orange light, mistaking it for the shift indicator and not dipping their main beams for approach...
