Welcome from a fellow Hastonian. My 12 year ownership of Passats has recently come to an end thanks to a drunk driver but staying with the VAG family in an A4 Avant.

Re: Tyre choices B8 GT

I ran Goodyear F1 Assymetric 4, 5 and 6s for years and then had a set deform and crack on me so switched to Continentals, was really happy with them although not cheap, car was written off when less than half worn but they were lasting well, my replacement Audi has Michelin Primacys on it, I'm reall...

Re: Tyre problem ?

Not sure if I've misread the problem, but if your B6 has the basic system that monitors wheel speed, you should just be able to reset this by pushing and holding the button on the centre console by the gear stick, this resets the monitoring to the current tyre wear and pressure, mine used to activat...

Re: She's dead

Well she's being collected by Copart on Friday, not happy with the settlement payment but as far as they're concerned it's a fair price and therefore they've coughed up and taken the hire car back. Managed to find myself a 1 owner 63 plate A4 Avant with 68k on the clock, initial 20 mile drive home w...

That's a yes then, oh fiddlesticks!, not sure I can be messing about with seized pinch bolts again, thought that was all behind me. Will end up in a B7 at this rate although there's a really nice 2015 TT convertible up for sale up the road, can always put my fishing gear and bike in the wife's Count...

She's dead

After 164068 miles, 106000 of those in my ownership, my loyal 2010 Highline Wagon is dead after being wiped out by a drunk driver while parked, somewhat gutted as shelled out on cam belt etc 18 months ago, has 4 recent Continental Sport Contact tyres and 3/4 tank of diesel, bodywork was excellent ot...

Re: Rear boot Lock/unlock help

Does the electronic actuator still work? As you've replaced the actual latch mechanism (mine failed open and I couldn't latch the boot shut) I'd be looking to see if power is getting to the actuator when you operate the microswitch when opening the boot. If it's getting power but not moving try disc...

Surprised the B7 has steel ones as mine on my B6 are aluminium, assumed they were pretty much identical underneath.

If you have one local to you I've found GSF have been cheaper than ECP, you need to order online though to get the best prices, they can't match the online price in store.

Re: B8 ad Blue fault

Just out of interest do you use your car often, neighbour had a Tiguan that he only uses at weekends and doesn't go far, got the AdBlue low warning for the first time in his ownership which was under a year, filled it up and had the same warning, lack of use had caused the AdBlue to crystallise in t...

Re: 1.9 AWX won't start

I'm going to hazard a guess at the in tank pump, prime the system a few times with VCDS and then see if it fires up, could be the colder weather is making it struggle, the heat in the summer and a nearly empty tank killed mine off, was intermittent though. Obviously could be wrong but worth a try as...

Re: Whats your mileage?

Should update mine really the old B5.5 that I sold in 2014 on 203k had it's last MOT in 2020 but had made it to 280k so lived on for a few more years. The B6 is now on 156k, most miles I've ever put on the same car, bought it on 58k so done nearly 100k relatively trouble free miles in it now over th...

Re: Turbo issues.... or not??

Could also be the actuator that sits on the turbo which moves the vanes, a small leak in the diaphragm can cause issues which causes the car to drop into safe mode which clears when you restart but leaves the fault logged in the ECU. There is a kit available to replace it but needs setting up proper...

Re: Fobs not unlocking doors intermittently

??? Are you saying the "tin whiskers" is caused by lead free solder or the other way round. I use a lot of solder in my radio hobby and hate the lead free stuff but i buy the cheepo silver line stuff it is still 60/40 and works. Yep, the move to Lead free is the main cause of the tin whis...

Re: Fobs not unlocking doors intermittently

Just been out to the car and wouldn't unlock so lead me to do a bit of investigation, only a theory at the moment but having cleaned it up and put it back together again it's now working. Since the move to Lead (Pb) free solder a phenomenon has been observed called "tin whiskers", these ar...

Re: Fobs not unlocking doors intermittently

Mine does this as well, it appears to be the key as when it happens the led isn't illuminating on the fob when the button is pressed, usually it's the buttons wearing out or coming unsoldered from the board but mine appear OK, I intend to run round the joints with a soldering iron when I get a chance.

Re: Headlight assembly removal

Water in the headlight is usually caused by lazy mechanics failing to refit the cover after changing a bulb.
Haven't done a B8 but if it's like most modern cars it will require removal of the front bumper as a minimum.

Re: 2.0 TDI Sport 170 - cut out…

That's good news, took me a while to find one for mine, most of the ones listed by the local motor factors and ECP had the wrong fuel pipe fitting, ordered a Bosch one from Autodoc in the end, just had to wait a bit longer for it but was a 15 minute job to swap it.

Re: 2.0 TDI Sport 170 - cut out…

Strangely mine did this a few months ago, never really sure I got to the bottom of the problem, fitted a new in tank fuel pump as it fired straight up on a bit of easy start when the RAC turned up and was fine for a couple of weeks before it did it again so assumed it was a fueling problem, no fault...

Re: Temp gauge goes down???

That was unlucky, theyre usually pretty good after forged build, the 2.5 does produce some torque, I'm still running the original TD04 so I'm maxed out at about 280bhp, weighs a bit less than a newage though.

Re: Temp gauge goes down???

I should think it's the thermostat, higher engine revs are pumping more water round the engine and through the cooling system resulting in lower temperatures.
