Re: Fuel filter OEM number?

There are only two filters on the PD engined B5.5 Up to about 2001 a cartridge type (which is probably what you have incorrectly bought). From 2001 a canister type as shown in your photo. They are readily available, link below to Eurocarparts. As of today £23.49 for a Mann filter and with their disc...

Re: awx engine not warming up

To clarify, the CTS at the back of the head has two outputs, one to the gauge and one to the ECU. Only fit an OE VW or Beru CTS, the circoli stat should be ok. Even OE grade CTS's are notoriously unreliable so anything worse / cheaper should go in the bin. I found this out through experience. Also t...

Re: Track rod ends + hammer = ERROR and Lights?

You can use a hammer but it is not best practice, especially if the carp needs to be beaten out of the TRE to release it.

Any reputable mechanic should have a balljoint splitter tool as a standby if the joint won't split with light to moderate use of a hammer(s).

Re: Leaking pipes

I've not heard any accounts of this if the pipes you are talking about are the ones on the air filter side. There is a pipe on the fuel filter side that can chaff on the back of the head, had this on mine but caught it just in time before it started leaking.

Re: No boost

I had a MAF fail on my first PD Golf back in the mid 00's. They fail gradually so you don't really notice. I changed mine in the car park of my local VW dealer as they were doing a good exchange deal on them at the time (this was 2005). The drive home was a lot faster than the drive there. A miracul...

Re: Rear tyres outside edges scrubbed! bush kits?

I thought we were talking about the back end of the car. The front end is a lot more involved. There are four arms (not wishbones) each side, an antirollbar 'c' link, inner anti roll bar bushes and suspension top mount bushes to deal with. If you are going to change the eight front arms you need to ...

Ok then. This is what you should buy and fit, £89. Notice the VW logo and part numbers have been ground off. These are the real deal Lemforder factory fitted items. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/FOR-VW-PASSAT-3B3-3B6-00-05-LEMFORDER-REAR-AXLE-MOUNTING-BUSH-HOUSING-BUSHES-OE/151967706480?fits=Model%3APa...

Re: Rear tyres outside edges scrubbed! bush kits?

Is it a 4motion or fwd car?

If fwd, a pair of lemforder axle bush assemblies is all you need. Should be about £100 for the pair.

If a 4mo then it could get expensive.

And just to check is it a B5 / 5.5 and not a B6 ?

Re: Faulty Climatronic on 1999 1.9tdi Wagon?

There is no mystery to working on a car A/C system. Where you are though, two things will be an issue; 1, Getting parts 2, Getting it de and then re gassed. Once it is de gassed, the system comes apart easily and as they say putting it back together is the reversal with the exception of you wetting ...

what about getting the brg out, do you need a press? No, when I did mine I drew it out with some large sockets and threaded bar. Note that the viscose bearing itself sits within the large aluminium bracket which carriers the alternator PAS pump etc. I'll see If I can dig out some pics of when I did...

Re: Carry on or scrap?

If you are a moderately good DIY'er the springs and dampers are do-able. The rears are a doddle, the fronts a little more tricky. The timing belt can be a bit more involved and can lead to additional unplanned work a new coolant radiator and an aux belt tensioner etc but it still DIY-able if you do ...

I've got phohotoes back. This if from when I did the Mrs MK4 Golf a few years back, note the chamfer on one end. The chamfered end goes in first and butts up against the stop. It might be different on the Passat though. (just like there being no circlip) https://img.photobucket.com/albums/v602/colin...

Re: ABS warning light

They don't want the job. It could be something as simple as the brake light switch or a wheel speed sensor. Both are easily DIY fixed once identified and the only way to do that is to get it read for fault codes, which you can also do DIY for a marginal investment (less than it would cost to have a ...
