Re: injectors

I know, but it just made me think,"what's the point," for an extra 20/25 horses, I'll just be content with my good looking reliable old passat,unless that is, you know anyone that can chop a passat estate!!! And in addition to Fat Tw@t's wise words. It is all relative. I've not even had my car re-m...

Re: Glow plugs not staying on for more than a second

And with the youngest B5.5 now being thirteen years old, chances are if the glowpugs themselves have never been changed they will be worn out. Also bare in mind that the glowplugs can continue for a couple of minutes after starting where the dash light will be off. Good calls above on the coolant te...

Re: Which Calipers?

I've had a look at the Euro's website plugging my reg number in and it mankes NO sense at all. One one of the rears there is a supplementary note saying "cable from top". Still makes no sense at all. I'd ring them to confirm the part number Or maybe get a pair of new ones for £68 elsewhere. https://...

Anything is a guess without the car being read for fault codes.

There are people here who can help you with this, depending upon your location.

Yes, good stuff Mindriot. A few more questions from me... 1, I've currently got a single din DAB headunit, is it worth getting a DAB capable android HU or just stream through the phone? 2, I've also got VDO oil pressure, oil temp and volt meters in the other din slot, do you know if the B5.5 is capa...

Re: HELP!! Please advice - our B5 Wagon is eating front tyres?

Another thing to consider is the method of alignment. There is a world of difference between simply having the fronts tracked into each other vs proper four wheel alignment where all wheels are tracked together. If it had been tracked simply only on the front wheels then that could explain a lot. An...

Re: Any recommendations for HID light kit?

Sorry I should have been clearer. When I normalised the halogen I was referring to a reflector halogen headlight unit. As a pose to a projector halogen headlight unit. So technically not wrong. Just not comprehensive wording one my behalf. Thanks for clearing that up for me though Ray I know people...

The phrase "at the end of the day" :mad: "reaching out" to "pick the low hanging fruit" "at the end of the day". Oh and wooofas, mine often comes mountain biking with me (off lead) and loves it. But sometimes you have to take them out for a slow walk so they can sniff all the other dog pi$$ then pi...

A new set of spring perches or spring seats is a good idea.

You need two per side, four in total.

Even if you are modestly lowered they scrape, especially the rears. My rears have folded in half and have the bottom edge worn away.

B5.5 aero wiper ARM judderation

Had this on my first B5.5 (traditional / old fashioned wiper blades) many years ago, over time the pivot pin at the base of the arm wears an elongated hole in the arm which leads to movement and much wiper judderation! Now it is hapening on my current B5.5, wiper judderation! A bit of lazy online se...

So... Was it worth the punt? ... probably too early to tell? I'm also itching for a change having been in B5.5 Passats for coming up on 12 years now. Nearing 50 most of my friends are burning about in company or leased 5 series, A6's and Jags now. But I'm not sure that would make me happy. And what ...

Back to my earlier suggestion and what Howey has also said;

Alternator pulley.

Watch this

The engine is shaking quite violently.

It would be worth whipping the belt off and investigating.

Re: ENGINE VIBRATION

Moving on I'd look at any fault codes and do some data logging / viewing to eliminate a misfire caused by ;

A dodgy injector loom or injector.

There isn't that much else it can be.

Another wildcard... EGR stuck open, but I'm sure you'd have disabled that long ago.

I'd normally suggest the DMF but that has been changed. Did you see the old one off and new one on before the box went back, do you know for sure they replaced it. Wildcard suggestion - alternator pulley. [edit] when you say tickover, is that with the car stationary or moving? If only moving, I'd su...

Re: Winter grill blocking off

I've done it in past winters on my B5.5 TDI's (ten years driving them) and it made no difference at all. I used a sheet of EPDM rubber behind the main grill but in front of the radiator extending right down to the bottom of the rad. Just covering the top grille will only cover half of the rad! My su...
