Re: B5 TDI(90) `00 Coolant Leak

new metal clips and o ring seal, you sure its not the rad itself!! they do tend to get on well and need a good waggle! howey My first guess is the hose is loose or split. I would have thought that if the Rad was shot it would be coming out quicker than it is??? Don`t know :-? New clip and o ring se...

B5 TDI(90) `00 Coolant Leak

Hi All, Right, I seem to have a fairly severe coolant leak that I have managed to trace back to the bottom hose that feeds into the Rad. Its losing about a pint a week. Is this fairly common and easy to solve. As ive said I havent managed to get underneath properly yet to diagnose it? Also, when i d...

Re: TDI Wagon "Hector"

Couple of things are starting to annoy me now. I have a ticking on full right hand lock which I suspect is a CV joint on its way out. Also a knocking under braking which doesnt sound too bad but I will have to sort it soon. The HID Bulbs will need replacing as one of them is not as bright as the oth...

Re: Knock/Tick under braking

So does this knocking noise sound like its coming from the rear of the car, or does it seem to travel to the front? I ask this as i've developed a slight klunk sound under slight breaking, ie. in traffic queues. It appears to be more towards the front of the car. And I feel a slight knock near to m...

Re: Knock/Tick under braking

Hi guys! Right I would recommend two items to look at! 1. Cv joint , slap it on hard lock and slowly pull away listening for a clicking sound, like a machine gun! If yes, outer cv joint! 2. Rear lower arm ball joint in the hub carrier, if no noise from cv then pop the ball joint out and give it a w...

Knock/Tick under braking

Hi guys, My B5 TDI has developed a knock under braking! But not quite a "clunk". It only happens once when under slight braking but not when under harsh braking? My first thought is a loose pad or bolt in the caliper? It also ticks when moving forward and on full right hand lock!! It doesn...

Re: Break Disk snapped

Remember when I was a kid walking to school along the bypass and a tipper truck passed me approaching a roundabout as he (or she) braked there was a huge crash and one of the drums exploded. Fair to say I jumped ever so slightly!!! I bet that woke you up x_x Have heard these things happen but never...

Just a quick one - Cambelt

What stages are the Cambelts due on the (90bhp) TDI engines?

The book says 40,000miles? Have I read that wrong?

Thanks

Re: TDI Wagon "Hector"

Cheers Guys,

First update and its a very small one  I noticed yesterday that my N/S rear tailight was much brighter than the O/S. Turns out that the Tail and Stop were on at the same time.

Thankfully it was a dodgy bulb so all sorted

Thought id log it in here anyway

TDI Wagon "The Hearse"

Hi All, Well it didnt take long until I found myself a motor. It had nearly all the things I was looking for, and more, so it had to be done. It was bought from a fellow member on here (64split) and it took me almost a 10hr round trip to get it via our wonderful Public Transport System :hyst Anyway ...

Re: What to look for?

Ok so its only the "Sports" models that have the 3 spoke and the 6sp box? That makes it even tougher then :-? TBH i dont really mind what spec the car is as long its looked after and tidy. i`ve been searching for sometime now and it seems that a 2001 TDI Sport Estate for under 2k is going ...

Re: What to look for?

Thank very much for the replies so far! I am sticking to my guns about having a derv over a petrol but the difference in price is quite a lot I've found!

Do all the "S" models have the three spoke wheel and 6 speed box or is it just the B5.5??

Thanks again!!

Re: What to look for?

Early engines are 90 or 110 BHP in the B5 Then later B5 (2000) had 115 pd units, before the B5.5 came along which had 100 and 130 bhp pd units. Also there is the 2.5 TDI - which I won't attempt to go into... The budget is realistic, I just sold my 1999 110 estate for a bit more than that and it had...

Noob Alert!

Hello everyone! Got to hear of this site through VZI. I am looking to replace my T4 over the coming weeks and after much deliberation ive decided to stick with VW and look for a B5 Passat. My top line is around £1800 and it has to be a Diesel but not overly fussed whether its a Saloon or an Estate....
