Re: OVerhaul - Guidance please peeps

Hi gents, Just thought I'd update this. So I've got it all swapped over, and feels like a new car now, very worth doing if you think the car is feeling a bit "wallowy". Pretty much everything on the front had to be removed using a gas axe or an angle grinder, so the cars name was mud for a...

Re: Radio signal affected by HID Headlights???

Yep, had the same issue. My old ballasts affected the signal for the radio. Must be something to do with the frequency it was operating at and where the lines for the radio were.

I moved my ballast around slightly and it got better. I've got new ballasts now and no interference noticed so far.

Re: OVerhaul - Guidance please peeps

It all looks good for the first three items. There is no bearing on the B5 5.5 as the shock doesn't swivel. The last item is the older style top mount. You have it covered in your first item of the three. You will also need a lower spring seat / cup or the rubber. I couldn't find just the rubber so...

Re: OVerhaul - Guidance please peeps

right, confused as hell now. The b5.5's don't have a conventional front top mount do they? Looking on VAGCAT it looks like they don't. So I've got the following part numbers as items of interest to get replaced: 8D0412065F - Upper spring disc Ebay link 3B7412377A - Upper bearing Meyle 8D0412131E - B...

Re: OVerhaul - Guidance please peeps

Sorry, more questions I know, but so many options to look at, and pulling VAG numbers isn't helping me.... Rear bump stops are the rears like this on the sports models? http://thumbs.ebaystatic.com/images/g/QzgAAOSw~gRVoIAE/s-l140.jpg Or do I just get these cut down? http://www.car-bock.de/bilder/pr...

Re: OVerhaul - Guidance please peeps

Does anyone have some good places to look for Hydraulic engine mounts?

Given the feedback most have on Febi Mounts, I'd rather give them a miss and get something proper. Found Meyle here for £34 a side, but doesn't appear to list the AWX as a fitment....

Re: OVerhaul - Guidance please peeps

No bother, I'll have a read later tonight and try to glean some information from that. I've got part numbers for the back end of the car, bump stop, upper mount, buffer blocks (top and bottom). Is the upper bearing worth replacing on it's own for the front or should I consider getting a complete new...

Re: OVerhaul - Guidance please peeps

Nice one, I'll check your thread out and have a look. I've looked at VAGCAT and there don't appear to be any part numbers for complete top mount assemblies, is it just a case of a replacement bearing, then the same on the rears? For what it's worth in time and effort saved, I'm probably going to get...

Re: OVerhaul - Guidance please peeps

Ok, so looking a bit more in to it, seems either bilstein b4's or b12's.... but do they match to the springs I've listed above?

Alternatively: 40mm FK Lowering springs...

Going to try and get a part number for the sport version top mounts front and rear.

Mine went through earlier this year under warranty. 55 plate, and got both done.

Guys at Sheffield VW bodyshop were top notch, didn't even argue, just measured paint to make sure they were original and then booked it in.

Scratching at bite point (NOT RELEASE BEARING)

Hi all, since I've had the rat (going on 4.5 years now) it's had this weird scratching sound when I get to biting point on the clutch. Now I used to assume it was bearing in the clutch or something related to it, as it was a bit juddery when I was pulling off. So got the clutch and DMF changed, fres...

Limp mode.

Could be either VNT (check by trying to move the actuator by hand), split boost hose (would explain smoke), N75 given up, and various other issues.

A scan will narrow this down a bit.

I just swapped mine over to LED sides, are you sure they were round the right way? I put mine in in a rush, and got them both the wrong way round :hyst

Took them back out switched them around (so the polarity was right) and all is right in the world again. B)
