Re: Tailgate opening when it’s shut or car locked -

If it's an estate. This is a known fault. The washer nozzle pipe for the rear wash wipe come off the nozzle, or is loose, so every time you wash the rear screen the washer fluid soaks the lock mechanism and electrics. Over time it throws up all kinds of lovely faults, like not locking, not unlocking...

Re: Serpentine Belt Tensioner Replace

It might be worth saying that if the problem is vibration at idle and low speeds the culprit is likely the overrunning alternator pulley is seized. I checked that and it's all working fine. The clutch pulley was replaced a while ago. I think the serpentine belt tensioner was last changed around 90k...

Steering Wheel Creaking

My steering wheel has begun creaking, only when making a slow left steering motion. I've sprayed everything with WD40 and checked the steering shaft down to the passenger footwell. Can't seem to work out where it's coming from. At first I thought it was the steering wheel as is sounds like a plastic...

Serpentine Belt Tensioner Replace

Is it possible to replace the serpentine belt tensioner without putting the front of the car in lock position ? (B5.5 1.9 tdi 2002). Looks like there might be just enough room to get it out with the radiator fan removed ?

Thanks.

Re: front left knocking ?

Turned out to be exactly as said...upper control arm bushes were banging on the suspension mounts. Now the fun part, both ends of the pinch bolt broke off, then when I tried drilling it out I was off center and screwed up the knuckle. VW don't make them any longer and there were none on eBay so I bo...

front left knocking ?

Sounds like a hollow knocking sound coming from the front left of my Passat 2002 B5.5 TDI. It only makes the noise at very low speed going over uneven ground, sometimes when pulling away. The car has done 190k miles and its probably on original suspension, control arms !! I bought the car at 80K. I'...

AC Dryer In / Out Ports ?

Trying to figure out which is the "in" and which is the "out" port for a new AC receiver / Dryer? for a 1.9 TDI 2002 B5.5. The old one doesn't have any markings on it whereas the new one has the "out" port marked on it, both connection holes are the same size ! Can't fi...

Re: Recommissioning the Air Conditioning 1.9tdi

If you've got any problems with your AC compressor just change it rather than try to figure out what's wrong. You can get a new Hella one for £160 or a second hand one for £30. To test the AC clutch turn on ignition (don't start car) just run a wire from the positive terminal of your battery to the ...

I fancied fitting a cruise control to my B5.5 but I got put off by taking off steering wheel and cutting into the wiring etc. Watched a few video's about how to do it and reckoned that was just pass my skill level. I saw the OEM kits for £100,

Re: ac compressor oil fill

Thanks for the info. I talked to denso, there is an oil drain plug on the compressor that lubricates the pistons and components inside. They said this oil should be ok and not need changing. As far as pouring 135a oil into the low side port of the compressor to lubricate the system when refilled wit...

Re: ac compressor oil fill

My recon compressor needs oil adding it's usually drained on recon ones for posting, some have drain plugs others pour it in through the low pressure hole...trying to work out which it is for a denso ? The compressor will be de gassed and out of the car. You can add oil when refilling the system, bu...

Re: Driver's door/luggage compartment warning light while driving

Have you used the rear wiper / washer recently? The washer tube has a habit of popping off the nozzle or leaking and then sprays water all over the hatchback lock mechanism. When mine did this I had the fault you mentioned. I pull off the hatch inner liner and pushed the hose back on an secured it w...

ac compressor oil fill

Installing a recon AC compressor in my B5.5 1.9tdi (2002). Any idea how I fill it with compressor oil ? Do I just pour in 3oz into the low side port?

Also it says I should use Denso ND8 oil which is about £50, but seems to be just the same a synthetic PAG145 oil ? that costs £8 !

Thank

Re: AC Squeal at start up !

Turned out to be the AC compressor. It was seizing and the belt was slipping, once over 2.5k revs there was enough power to un-seize the compressor and jolt it into life. Since I'm replacing the compressor I've decided to replace the AC rad, expansion tube, receiver dryer, pressure switch. Should be...

Re: AC Squeal at start up !

I tensioned the AC belt last year, will give it another check in case it came loose. Also will check the fans for noise. I'm also going to check the gas level with my filling hose. It's the original compressor, receiver,, dryer from 2002 so it's been through a lot and I guess it could be that the de...

AC Squeal at start up !

Getting a loud continuous squeal noise from my AC at start up, sound is the same as a slipping alternator belt. Car is 2002 1.9 B5.5. I was using a cable that came with a full version of VCDS. when the license expired I changed to the free version on a different computer. I think it might have been a driver problem for the cable. I'll have another go at it, it just buy another cable with a driver off ebay.

Can I check the right steering fluid for a B5.5 TDI?

As long as it says on the bottle that is compatible with VW G00200 ? then is should be ok to use to top up the steering fluid tank.

Thanks
