Cheers for the advice, i rang a vw specialist here in essex and they said injector loom,then if that don't cure it injectors may be at fault...

Well, i bought the repro covers off the guy on Ebay and got them for £45 which is a bargain seeing as vw wanted the best part of over £250 fo the pair. Have also ordered some new fixings from Eurowagens. It'll be fitted this coming saturday, will let you guys know how it went.

the guy on Ebay is selling the undertrays and they have two parts, i presume one for engine and one for gearbox?

Is this right or should there be a third part nearer the front of the car???

thanks for all the replies chaps you've been really helpfull. Just one question does the TDI ESTATE have three covers or just the two?? Have sourced a replacement off a 2002 tdi and it has three covers and all the fixings.
Fixings can be bought cheap at Eurowagens if this of help to anyone?

Both the engine and gearbox undertray have both been obliterated on the wifes 130 sport tdi. I rang vw and they wanted the best part of £250 for both. Looked on diesel geeks site at the panzer trays and they look pretty good but maybe a bit excessive?

137,000 and no box problems yet, new clutch went in at 90,000 miles. Drive it sensibly and don't labour the engine at low revs. It'll be fine

wife's passat has always been tappety compared to the vw's i've had. As it went to vw i'd hope they use the proper PD oil when it was serviced! It's covered 137,000 miles and it is seriously quick.

the wife's passat is very tappety and it's had a service at vw recently. Even with engine top cover on it's sounds bad.Compared to my 130 gt tdi which is very quiet the passat sounds like a bag of spanners. strange ..

Are the sensors you're talking about from Ebay? My passat temp guage sits about 80 and not 90. Also how would i know if the viscous fan is knackered?

My question is how come the Highline 130 bhp only have the 5 speed gear box and the 130pd sport have the 6 speed box with the same engine?
